Chiefs v Crusaders betting tips & prediction; Super Rugby NZ, Rd 8 preview

Welcome to our Chiefs v Crusaders betting tips, prediction and odds update for their Super Rugby Aotearoa clash on Saturday night.

The Chiefs are winless after six starts but have shown some promising signs in recent weeks, including going down 17-21 to the second-placed Blues on Sunday.

Remarkably the Chiefs have lost their last six games by 12 points or less, which highlights how competitive they have been, despite the lack of wins.

But the Crusaders will prove an even sterner test, with Scott Robertson’s charges coming off their first loss of the Super Rugby NZ season, a 32-34 thriller to the Hurricanes.

The Chiefs are paying $3.15 to cause an upset with Betway.com, while the Crusaders are as short as $1.35 with some rugby bookmakers

In a huge boost to the Chiefs All Blacks prop Angus Ta’Avao is expected to return via the bench, after six months out injured.

Both teams will have extra motivation for this clash, with Crusaders star Sam Whitelock playing his 150th game, while Aaron Cruden, who played 25 games for Hurricanes, will make his 100th appearance for the Crusaders.

Below we have given our free Chiefs v Crusaders tips and winner prediction for their clash from FMG Stadium, beginning at 7:05PM local time.

Chiefs v Crusaders tips

Our rugby expert has cast his eye over the Chiefs v Crusaders betting and found some value tips.

Half-time/full-time – Chiefs/Crusaders to win

We think the $5.50 up for grabs on the Chiefs leading at half-time and the Crusaders to win is good value. The Crusaders have scored more points in the last 20 minutes of games than any other club this season, a record we think they can continue.

Lachlan Boshier to score  first try

Boschier is paying $17 to score the first try of this game, which we think is good value, given the Chiefs have been starting fast. The forward has crossed the line three times this season and has consistently been an attacking option. While there are no guarantees with this type of rugby betting market, Boshier is as good a chance as anyone.

Chiefs v Crusaders prediction 1/8/2020

I am very tempted to tip the Chiefs to cause a boilover here, but their winless status has me questioning my common sense. The Chiefs have won seven of their last 10 games against Crusaders at FMG Stadium Waikato, including a win in the regular Super Rugby season earlier this year, before COVID changed the global sporting landscape. But the Crusaders have been the most consistent team across the shortened season, which has us leaning towards them in a close one. Our final Chiefs v Crusaders prediction? Crusaders 28-26.
