Collingwood v North Melbourne betting tips, prediction & odds update; AFL Rd 13 preview

AFL finals week two: Geelong v Collingwood.

Welcome to our Collingwood v North Melbourne betting tips, prediction and odds update  for their AFL round 13 clash at the Gabba on Monday night.

The Magpies are sitting in eighth place on the AFL ladder after a disappointing run of form that has had them slip out of premiership calculations, including a horror 10-goal loss to mid-table Melbourne in their last outing.

Meanwhile, things are even worse for Rhyce Shaw’s Roos, who are in full rebuild mode and sitting 17th on the ladder, above only winless Adelaide.

They suffered bad losses against Geelong and Melbourne, before finding some form last round in a one-point loss to the Brisbane Lions.

Both these teams came into the season with high expectations but the injury gods have largely cruelled their seasons.

In their only meeting in the 2019 season, North Melbourne pummeled the Magpies by 44 points, with Jack Ziebell kicking three goals. Alas captain Ziebell is missing injured, as are a stack of other stars.

The Roos have regained former Giants midfielder Paul Ahern and defensive mainstay Robbie Tarrant for this clash.

The return of Tarrant is timely give the Magpies have selected plenty of tall timber for this clash, including recalling out-of-favour US giant Mason Cox. They have also called in veteran Chris Mayne, defenders Flynn Appleby and Jordan Roughead, and tagger Levi Greenwood, who is playing his first match back after recovering from a knee reconstruction.

The Pies have lost Ben Reid (hamstring) and Brody Mihocek (concussion) to injury and dropped ,Callum Brown, Lynden Dunn and Rupert Wills.

Collingwood v North Melbourne tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Collingwood v North Melbourne tips for Monday’s game.

Collingwood to win/match total under 118.5 points

This double is priced at around $2.62 with Australian bookmaker PlayUp. We look at these teams and wonder where their goals are going to come from. North Melbourne are missing mainstay goalkicker Ben Brown, and the Pies’ forward line has been misfiring badly. Collingwood are travelling poorly but have a lot at stake in this game; and the Roos are travelling even worse.

Cameron Zurhaar to kick 2+goals

The mercurial Zurhaar showed how dangerous he can be for the Kangaroos with great display against the Lions last weekend. He’s probably going to be the most dangerous forward on the ground and does not need a lot of possessions to cause carnage. Plus we love watching him play; his aggression separates him from most of his peers.

Collingwood to win by 1-24 points

We think the Pies will win but they have not really killed off many opposition teams all season. Their method has been to kick away early then hold the other team at arm’s length. We expect more of the same.

Collingwood v North Melbourne prediction 24/8/2020

Collingwood were just too bad to be true last round and before that they struggled to beat cellar dwellers Adelaide and Sydney Swans. But they should benefit from finally getting a decent break between games and we will give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they regain something like passable form here. If they can’t beat North Melbourne at the Gabba, their season is as good as done. Our final Collingwood v North Melbourne prediction? Magpies by 13 points.
