The Magpies have swung several changes to the team that drew with premiership favourites Richmond at the MCG last Thursday night, with midfielder Rupert Wills and speedster Jaidyn Stephenson replacing dropped pair Josh Thomas and Jack Madgen.

The Saints, in a buoyant mood after dismantling the Western Bulldogs, will be without workmanlike Jarryn Geary, who will miss the clash with hamstring tightness, but they have included ex-Magpie Jonathon Marsh. Luckless skipper Geary missed much of last year with a serious wound on his leg.

Despite the Saints’ hot form, the Magpies have been installed $1.39 favourites to defeat the Saints ($3), who are hunting for their first finals appearance since 2011.

The Magpies have won their past two games against the Saints, but this is a new-look St Kilda outfit, after some huge off-season signings including Bradley Hill and Zac Jones, plus the re-emergence of Dan Hannebery as a top-flight midfielder.

The Pies will be sweating on the fitness of superstar ruckman Brodie Grundy, although his absence would not hurt as much as in previous years, with Swans recruit Darcy Cameron also in the line-up. As AFL fans we are hoping Grundy plays to see how talented Saints big man Rowan Marshall fares against him.
