Geelong v Hawthorn betting tips, prediction & odds; AFL round 3 preview 2021

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Welcome to our Geelong v Hawthorn tips, prediction and odds analysis for their AFL round 3 clash at the MCG on Easter Monday.

The Cats began the 2021 AFL season with a full head of steam after securing veterans Jeremy Cameron, Shaun Higgins and Isaac Smith in a bid to win a flag with their ageing list.

However things have not gone to plan. An injury has kept Cameron from the field, while their best player Patrick Dangerfield has been rubbed out for a month suspended, while Gary Rohan has joined him after an undisciplined act in their narrow win over Brisbane.

The Cats regain prolific midfielder Mitch Duncan and have called in draft bolter Max Holmes, while Charlie Constable and Zach Guthrie have been dropped.

Hawthorn recorded a remarkable round-one victory over Essendon, before succumbing to reigning premiers Richmond by 29 points last Sunday.

They have injury concerns themselves but dashing Chad Wingard makes his return, while key forward Mitch Lewis is also back in the mix. Will Day is out injured while Jack Gunston is also still missing from their best possible line-up.

The Hawks have axed Oliver Hanrahan and Tim O’Brien from their most recent match.

Geelong are a short-priced favourite to win this clash, priced at $1.32, while there is not much love for Hawthorn ($3.40) coming in from punters. The $2 line has been set at 20.5 with TopSport.com.au for the Cats v Hawks clash.

Geelong v Hawthorn tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the markets and found some free Cats-Hawks tips.

Tom Hawkins to kick 4+ goals

We have seen just how destructive key forwards can be under these new rules and we think it could be Tom Hawkins’ turn for a fill-up. The big Cat is paying $2.80 to score 4+ goals, which looks good value to us against an undersized Hawks’ backline.

Geelong to win by 1-24 points

This option is paying $3.40 which is enough for us to have a throw at the stumps. Hawthorn have shown they will be no easybeats in 2021 and we’re willing to give them a chance to push the Cats all the way. Taking the Cats to win is safer, but offers far worse value..

Geelong v Hawthorn prediction 5/4

Geelong will be wary of a Hawks team that can produce a performance out of the box; after all they are coached by Alastair Clarkson. The Cats midfield looks rather thin without Dangerfield and exposes ageing warrior Joel Selwood to a more central role. While we think the Cats will ultimately win this game, we think the Hawks can push them all the way, eventually falling short because of their lack of scoring power. Tomahawk to be the difference. Our final Geelong v Hawthorn? Cats by 11 points.
