Greyville racing tips, form and preview 4/11
Our Hollywoodbets Greyville tips, form and preview focus on Wednesday’s eight-race Polytrack meeting, where Fire Chief looks exceptionally well treated at the weights and could provide punters with a reliable banker in Race 5.
Fire Chief is the standout on merit ratings in the Progressive Plate and should take plenty of beating if reproducing his best form. Garth van Zyl’s gelding has a wide draw to overcome and makes his Polytrack debut, while the distance may ultimately prove shorter than ideal. However, he is so well in at the weights that he looks difficult to oppose. Clair De Lune is the obvious danger after two narrow defeats over course and distance, while Tiger Cody should be competitive from his inside draw.

Showgirl and Fort Usher look the principal contenders in Race 3, although the latter’s strong Polytrack record makes him particularly dangerous. Cleartherunway can bounce back to winning form on his preferred surface in the fourth, while Angel’s Oasis gets an excellent opportunity to go one better in Race 6 after narrowly missing out over course and distance last time.
The Gliding Fish is another appealing selection in Race 7, dropping significantly in class with a 4kg claiming apprentice aboard. The finale looks more competitive, with What A Classic narrowly preferred to Red Hot Miss and Predator’s Crown in a race where the draw could prove decisive.
Below is our free form analysis and racing tips for all eight races at Greyville on Wednesday.
Race 1
Gallop Tv Open Mdn
J LORDI (8) has shown up well in two local starts after producing useful form at Fairview. He has a tricky draw to overcome but gets the assistance of a 4kg claiming apprentice and should be competitive. TASK FORCE (2) is relatively lightly raced and has shown enough ability to suggest he can get involved. He has performed well for Keagan de Melo previously and must be respected. TP THUNDER CHILD (4) was disappointing on his local debut but had some useful Fairview form before that and deserves another chance. CHOCTAW RIDGE (7) has been showing signs of improvement and could surprise at decent odds.

Race 2
Live It. Love It. Own It. Www.racecoast.co.za Open Mdn
MEGA AWESOME (5) showed significant improvement on the Polytrack last time and should appreciate the step up in distance. He looks capable of building on that performance in a competitive maiden. DOUBLE JEOPARDY (7) raced greenly on debut but showed plenty of promise and should benefit from both the experience and the extra furlong. He does have joint top weight to carry, which makes his task more difficult. OWNER OF CREATION (12) has been a frustrating maiden and must overcome a wide draw, but returns to his preferred surface and could finally get off the mark. QUEEN OF DENMARK (2) takes on male opposition but has improved with every outing and should be competitive with a 4kg claiming apprentice aboard.

SHOWGIRL (2) attracted strong market support last time but made her challenge just too late. She switches to the Polytrack and steps up an extra furlong, which could bring out further improvement. FORT USHER (7) is lightly raced and has recorded both victories on the Polytrack. He received a six-pound increase in the handicap for his latest success but looks progressive enough to overcome that penalty. GREATEST HITS (10) produced an encouraging performance on his return from nearly a year’s absence and should appreciate this distance. His wide draw is a concern, but the betting market could provide a guide to his chances. PENNY’S CHOICE (1) won her maiden on her first Polytrack appearance after showing consistent Highveld form and must be respected with just 50.5kg to carry.

CLEARTHERUNWAY (4) won over course and distance at his penultimate start before disappointing on the turf last time. The return to the Polytrack should suit Mark Dixon’s runner and he looks capable of making amends. PINOT GRIGIO (7) makes his Polytrack debut on his third start after a break and has improved with each recent outing. Further progress would put him firmly in contention. UZWANO (2) narrowly won the Michaelmas Handicap last time and has been remarkably consistent, although his best form appears to be on turf. WORLD OF OUR OWN (8) returns from a break and has just 50kg to shoulder. He is capable of making his presence felt if reproducing his better form.

FIRE CHIEF (8) is exceptionally well treated at the weights and looks the standout selection on merit ratings. Garth van Zyl’s gelding has a wide draw to overcome and makes his Polytrack debut, while the distance could eventually prove too sharp. However, if he runs anywhere near his handicap mark, he should take a power of beating. CLAIR DE LUNE (2) is in excellent form and has been narrowly beaten in her last two starts over course and distance. She looks the biggest threat if the favourite fails to deliver. TIGER CODY (1) is consistent, goes well over this trip and has the benefit of an inside draw. LUNELUCK (5) won impressively on the turf last time and represents an in-form stable, although he must now prove himself on the Polytrack.
Our tip: 8-2-1-5
Race 6
Tote For The Win Foundation Stakes
ANGEL’S OASIS (4) was narrowly beaten over course and distance last time and gets an excellent opportunity to go one better against opposition that does not appear particularly strong. She looks the runner to beat. GALLIC KING (6) is lightly raced and recently shed his maiden on the Polytrack. He disappointed when returning to turf against stronger opposition last time but should be much more competitive back on his preferred surface. NAVAJO DANCER (2) bids for a third consecutive Polytrack victory but must overcome a five-pound increase in the ratings, which makes another success more difficult. Navajo Dancer is also the betting elect with HollywoodBets (HollywoodBets review), which has us looking elsewhere for value. MUSIC IS LIFE (7) finished a respectable second behind Polytrack specialist FORT USHER last time and has a handy galloping weight with a capable 2.5kg claiming apprentice aboard.
Our tip: 4-6-2-7
Race 7
Lucky Fish Power Pick Foundation Stakes
THE GLIDING FISH (5) had been competing against much stronger opposition in recent starts and looks well placed to return to winning form, but was scratched on race day. TARGARYEN KNIGHT (1) was a beaten favourite over course and distance last time but has the advantage of the inside draw and also benefits from a 4kg claim. He should be right in the finish and is still decent value at around 3.90 with betting sites. KIMBALL O’HARA (8) finished strongly on the Polytrack at his latest outing and the additional furlong should suit. SANBEENEE (3) showed marked improvement under a light weight last time and again carries very little with a more experienced apprentice aboard. RAGNAR THE KING (4) is seldom far away and has solid Polytrack form, although he continues to struggle to register his second victory.
Our tip: 5-1-8-3-4
Race 8
Hollywoodbets Bright Future Fm 74 Hcp (F & M)
WHAT A CLASSIC (1) and RED HOT MISS (11) are closely matched on ratings and recent form, but the inside draw could give Mike Miller’s filly the advantage in a competitive finale. WHAT A CLASSIC gets the narrow preference on that basis. RED HOT MISS remains a major danger and there should be very little separating the pair at the finish. PREDATOR’S CROWN (8) races off the same handicap mark and produced an excellent performance in her first start out of the maiden ranks. She looks capable of another competitive effort. MON PAPILLON (12) makes her first appearance for a new stable after showing inconsistent Cape form. She remains lightly raced and the switch to the Polytrack could bring out improvement, although the widest draw presents a significant challenge.
