GWS Giants v Hawthorn betting tips, prediction and odds; AFL rd 5 preview

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

The Greater Western Sydney Giants host Hawthorn in a high-stakes match in AFL round five on Sunday.

Alastair Clarkson’s Hawthorn have bounced back superbly from a humiliation at Geelong to upstage Richmond and then hold off North Melbourne, while the Giants finally registered a win by rolling a fading Collingwood.

But foremost in the mind of Giants will be finding a game plan that works against better than last year when they were thrashed twice and scored a total of 67 points … in two matches!

GWS Giants v Hawthorn tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds for some value and found several value GWS Giants v Hawthorn tips for Sunday’s game.

GWS -6.5 points/match total under 124.5 points

This double with PlayUp requires GWS to win by 7 points or more and the match total to be under 124.5 points. Given the recent history between the teams we can see a slow, tactical battle.

Jeremy Finlayson top goal-scorer group 1 at $6

This requires Jeremy Finlayson 6.00 to score more goals or at least equal most goals in a group that also includes teammates Jeremy Cameron ($3) and Toby Greene ($3.75) as well as Hawks Chad Wingard ($4.50), Jonathon Patton ($5.50) and Jack Gunston ($6.50). Jeremy Finlayson really seems to have come of age this season and looms as a serious threat especially with so many Giants forward options for other teams to curtail.

GWS Giants v Hawthorn Hawks prediction

Even with a tough injury run the Giants are putting out a strong line-up on their home turf and there is a hard edge to their play that was too much for the Magpies last weekend. The Hawks only scrambled over the line against the Kangaroos but they do sit inside the eight and they have the best coach in the league in Clarkson. But this time we think the Giants will benefit from being at home a couple of weeks in a row and will get over the line by about 15 points.
