GWS Giants v Western Bulldogs tips, prediction & odds; AFL Rd 6 Preview 2021

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Welcome to our GWS v Western Bulldogs tips, prediction & odds analysis ahead of their AFL round 6 clash at Manuka Oval, Canberra, on Friday night.

The Bulldogs are the buzz team of 2021 and remain undefeated after five rounds, but face a resurgent GWS outfit that has beaten Collingwood and Sydney in successive weeks.

Western Bulldogs have been installed a $1.37 favourite for the clash, with the Giants $3.20 outsiders with leading bookmaker TopSport. The $2 line has been set at 19.5 points.

These two teams have an interesting history, with the Bulldogs beating the Giants in a controversial preliminary final on their way to the premiership in 2016, and several players swapping clubs in acrimonious circumstances.

Team news for GWS v Western Bulldogs round 6

The Giants suffered another injury blow in their thrilling win over the Swans, when the luckless Sam Reid tweaked his hamstring. They will, however, have Harry Perryman (glandular fever) back in the line-up.

Veteran GWS ruckman Shane Mumford will be rested this week with rising youngster Matthew Flynn his replacement.

The Western Bulldogs send out a team with six changes from last week. They will be boosted by prolific ball-winner Caleb Daniel after his suspension, as well as ruckman Stefan Martin, who was rested, while Laitham Vandermeer is also available after being a late withdrawal last week. Defender Zaine Cordy and strong-marking midfielder Lin Jong will play their first games for the season.

Bailey Williams (collarbone) and Lachie McNeil (rested) were not considered, while the Dogs swung the axe on three players: forward Patrick Lipinski, Lewis Young and youngster Jordon Sweet.

GWS v Western Bulldogs tips

WGL’s AFL betting expert has assessed the markets and found some Giants v Bulldogs tips:

Giants +19.5 points/match total over 154.5 points

We like the looks of the Giants to give this one a shakes as they will have taken some real confidence from their last-gasp performance against the previously unbeaten Swans. The 19.5 points start looks enough on a chilly Canberra night.

Jeremy Finlayson 3+ goals

The lanky left-footer was outstanding a couple of weeks back against Collingwood, and does not need too many chances to kick goals as he rarely misses. He seems in better form than fellow Giants tall forward Harrison Himmelberg at this stage of the season. He will also get a run in the ruck which can liven him up.

GWS Giants v Western Bulldogs prediction 23/4

Teams don’t come much hotter than the Bulldogs five weeks into the season. They have free-wheeled their way to victory most weeks and it will be important for the Giants not to give up an early lead as when the Dogs are rolling they are so difficult to stop. We think the Giants can provide a stern test in this one, but in the end the Dogs should get over the line. Our final GWS v Western Bulldogs prediction? Bulldogs by 10 points.
