Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs betting tips and prediction
Welcome to our Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs betting tips and winner prediction for their AFL round 13 clash at the MCG on Friday night.
The third-placed Hawks (1.33) are a hot favourite to defeat the seventh-placed Bulldogs (3.37), while the 1.90 line has been set at a tempting 20.5 points at Australian betting sites.
Other key Hawks v Bulldogs betting markets include the over/under points total being set at 175.5 points and Jack Gunston (6.50) being installed as favourite to kick the first goal of the match.
The Hawks are fresh off a 52-point thrashing of the Saints with their key forwards combining for 14 goals, which will have the Dogs undersized defence worried.
They could be boosted by defender Tom Barrass (hamstring) and Conor Nash (neck spasms), while Will Day has pulled up well from his first AFL game in some time.
The Bulldogs form woes have seemingly been put behind them following their narrow victory over Collingwood last round, with young defender Michael Sellwood taking a match-saving mark deep in defence late.
The Dogs are a different team with Tim English back on deck and his battle with the Hawks twin ruckman Lloyd Meek and Ned Reeves is set to be crucial.
Luke Beveridge’s team will be boosted by the inclusion of Cody Weightman after he missed almost two years with a string of knee injuries, but gun extractor Tom Liberatore is still overcoming his knee injury.
Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs betting tips
Our AFL betting expert has assessed the markets and found some value Hawthorn v Bulldogs tips:
Cody Weightman 2+ goals
The Bulldogs enigmatic forward is back on deck and will undoubtedly slot into their forward line, which is beginning to look dangerous given the improvement of Arthur Jones and Aaron Naughton’s continued presence. Weightman has not played at the lower level, which could leave him rusty, but we expect he is super fit and has been training the house down. Jones is paying 4.20 to kick 2+, which is nice value, and while there is not market out yet for Weightman, given the teams are not finalised, we expect him to be a similar price.
Hawthorn goal-kicker tips
The Hawks have plenty of different reins to pull up forward, with usual defender Blake Hardwick kicking bags of four in successive weeks, while their key talls Jack Gunston, Mitch Lewis and Mabior Chol all have their moments. It has made it hard to pin down a consistent scorer, barring Nick Watson, who is now too short to consider. While Gunston is reliable as the day is long and can be included for 3+, we’re gonna look a little longer and back Jack Ginnivan in this week. While Ginni’s role has changed, he’s likely to spend more time forward as Will Day get more minutes under his belt. He’s also paying a huge 17.00 to kick 3+, which is as long as we’ve seen him in years.
Adam Treloar 2+ goals
This is speculative, but Treloar spent a lot of time forward against Collingwood and should have kicked more than his one goal. He’s paying 11.50 for 2+, which is the main reason we’re highlighting him in this match preview.
Hawthorn v Bulldogs prediction
The Bulldogs can win this clash but Hawthorn deserve to be favourites, given their outstanding year to date and their exceptionally fit list. Expect the Dogs to come out fired up with Weightman back in the line-up, but the Hawks look to be more settled at the book-ends, particularly if Barrass returns. You could do worse than taking the any other result in the wire to wire market at Neds and Ladbrokes, which essentially means both teams will lead after at least one quarter. This is paying 2.02. Our final Hawks v Bulldogs prediction? Hawks by eight points.
