Kenilworth racing tips

Kenilworth will host an eight race card on Saturday afternoon, with some quality racing expected at this South African horse racing meeting. Race 7 shapes as one of the standout contests on the programme, with Candice Bass-trained Marcus Aurelius looking to frank a strong piece of recent Cape form after narrowly going down to Future Free last month.

That form received a major boost when Future Free went on to perform well above his official rating behind Durban July hopefuls in the Grade 3 Legal Eagle Stakes, adding extra substance to the April 15 performance. While Marcus Aurelius has a slight query on soft ground and has occasionally mixed his form, his sharp turn of foot makes him a major player in the Class 4 contest over 1500m.

Below are our free Kenilworth racing tips for May 16, 2026.

Race 1

KENILWORTH WELCOMES YOU MDN JUVENILE PLATE

SPARKLING STAR (9) was heavily supported in the market when finishing third behind Mystic Inferno on April 1. She is a lovely filly with a beautiful action, and the yard thinks highly of this individual. She will be very hard to beat now that she has dropped back to 1000m. WORLD OF SECRETS (7) caught the eye late when finishing just over four lengths behind Enticement last time. She looks progressive and should run a big race here. This is a race dominated by first-timers, so keep your eyes glued to the parade ring and let the market guide you. Sparkling Star has been backed off the map late with HollywoodBets, having been crunched into 1.45 on Friday.

Our tip: 9,7

Race 2

SINGAPORE POOLS TROPHY MAIDEN JUVENILE PLATE

ROMAN BEAUTY (2) ran a great race on debut. With natural improvement expected from this well-bred filly, she will be hard to beat. BLACKBIRD (3) stayed on nicely for fourth behind the highly rated Rich Man’s World on March 30, and the form of that race has worked out well. He should make tons of improvement going into his second start and must be included into all bets. NAVASNINE (4) improved beautifully to finish second behind a nice type on April 15. Even though he wants further, he should run a big race here. There are some nicely bred first-timers in the mix, and any market support would be significant.

Our tip: 2,3,4

Race 3

LUCKY FISH DIAMOND RISE MAIDEN PLATE

HILTON HEADS (2) has run three good races in succession and should love the step up in trip and at 4.40 with South African betting sites, should offer some good value. From a neat draw, he will go close to winning. BIG DEAL (10) is much better than his last start and the blinkers have been removed. If he gets some luck in running from a bad draw, he will be right there in the finish. PROTECTOR OF PEACE (1) will be given every chance from a good draw. The blinkers and tongue tie stay on, and he should be amongst the places now that he steps up to 1400m. THE BIG BANG (9) ran a great race behind Sky Rocket up the straight at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on April 15. He should enjoy the rise in distance and is worth watching closely.

Our tip: 2,10,1,9

Race 4

GENUINE ENNION SYNDICATE MAIDEN PLATE

MASTERONTHEMOON (7) was a touch unlucky when finishing fast for second behind Phantom Man on April 15. Top jockey Richard Fourie sticks with this gelding, and he should go very close to winning on current form. BOURBON KING (5) looks progressive after running second behind Spanish Verse last time. The blinkers stay on and the step up to 1800m should suit. SPARKLING SKY (8) will appreciate the rise in trip. She is a big filly with a big action and should be amongst the places if positioned well turning for home. ROYAL INFLUENCER (2) ran a fair race behind Ferryman on April 18 and now tries 1800m for the first time. There should be no excuses on Saturday.

Our tip: 7,5,8,2

Race 5

RACE COAST INCENTIVES BY HOLLYWOODBETS C5

BACKINTHEFASTLANE (5) quickened up smartly to win a good race on April 18 and the form of that race has worked out well. The blinkers stay on and he has a big winning chance again. TRIP TO CAMELOT (7) won well at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on March 21 and his form since being gelded has been good. He should be competitive stepping out of the maiden ranks. SUPER VIKING (4) was gutsy on March 30, moving through the field impressively to shed his maiden tag. More is required to win again, but he looks progressive. MIDWAY (1) is honest and can earn for the connections from a perfect draw.

Our tip: 5,7,4,1

Race 6

BET WITH TOTE CLASS 5 (F & M)

SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE (2) ran a top race out of the maiden ranks behind South Of France on April 15. She is a young filly with lots of scope for improvement and has a big winning chance on current form. APRICITY (1) has run two excellent races in succession and should be storming home late from a nice draw. Include her into all bets. RAFFISH TREND (5) might be the value horse in this tricky race. She should love the step up in trip and her form is consistent. MISS ATTITUDE (3) caught the eye late for fourth in the same race as Somebody Somewhere last time. It was a great run out of the maiden ranks and she should be right there in the finish.

Our tip: 2,1,5,3

Race 7

LUCKY FISH CRAZY TIME CLASS 4

MARCUS AURELIUS (3) stayed on well for second behind Future Free on April 15. The blinkers stay on and he should be flying at them late from a good draw. He has a big winning chance. FERRYMAN (4) won his maiden in style on April 18 and looks like a smart horse in the making. He should be right there in the finish and must be included into all bets. IN MOTION (5) needed his run back after a long break on April 6. The step up in trip should bring out further improvement and he will be much fitter for this assignment. CAPTAINS ALLIANCE (1) has run some fair races of late and has dropped further in the ratings. He has a solid place chance on his best form.

Our tip: 3,4,5,1

Race 8

HOLLYWOODBETS BRIGHT FUTURE CLASS 4 (F & M)

GIN PALACE (6) has changed stables and is a filly that always comes to the track with a big reputation. Her form is very good and even though 1000m is on the short side, she should be competitive. PUSHING LIMITS (5) has been rested for 128 days and carries no weight on her back. If the apprentice gets her into a good rhythm with cover early, she should run a big race at this level. BLACK ERIKA (2) never runs a bad race and was doing some good work late behind Music Of The Night last time. This trip may be a touch sharp early, but she has a wonderful turn of foot late and will be hitting the line hard. PEACE OF MIND (1) is much better than her last run and should try to lead the field from start to finish.

Our tip: 6,5,2,1
