New Zealand v Sri Lanka betting predictions & odds, T20 World Cup Women’s tips

Best T20 W players - 10 to watch at the T20 Women's World Cup

NEW Zealand face a potentially tricky opening T20 World Cup Women’s clash against Sri Lanka in Perth on Saturday night.

The Kiwis are 1.09 favourites to defeat Sri Lanka (7.00), and much as the odds suggest we are predicting they will have too much firepower.

New Zealand are ranked third in the world, but have slipped under the radar in the lead-up to the T20 Women’s World Cup and have blown out to 11.00 to win the tournament.

Any team that features the likes of star all-rounder and captain Sophie Devine, who was dominant against South Africa in their most recent series, Suzie Bates, who has been a picture of consistency in recent years, and the emergence of leg-spinner Amelia Kerr will be hard to beat.

Sri Lanka, paying 151.00 to win the tournament, are a developing outfit who will be led by skipper and gun batter Chamari Atapattu, who will need to fire to paper over the cracks in their batting line-up.

Remarkably Sri Lanka have never gone any further than the Group stage at a women’s World Cup, and we’re not confident they can do it this time, in a group that features Australia, India and the Kiwis.

Below are our predictions, best bets and odds update for the New Zealand v Sri Lanka T20 World Cup Women’s clash, being played in Perth on Saturday night.

Player of the match betting tip

The two standouts in the NZ line-up are Devine and Bates and it really wouldn’t surprise for one of these two to fire early on. But their odds of 3.00 and 4.50 respectively are too short for our tastes in a market like this. Instead we’re going to have a shy at the stumps and tip youngster Amelia Kerr to star and be crowned player of the match. Kerr is also paying 5.00 to top the wickets, which would be a safer bet. If you are a Sri Lankan supporter, it’s hard to look past Atapattu in betting for player of the match.

Top Sri Lanka bowler – Most wickets

Udeshika Prabodhani is playing at her second T20 Women’s World Cup at the age of 34 and looks primed to repeat her strong showing from several years ago, when she was equal top wicket-taker for her team. Paying 6.00 with leading cricket betting sites, Prabodhani offers more value than her more high-profile team mates.

NZ v Sri Lanka prediction – T20 Women’s Word Cup 2020

We are predicting New Zealand, even without former captain Amy Satterwaite, who recently gave birth with team-mate Lea Tahuha (who has returned to the Kiwis line-up), will be too strong here. The likes of Devine and Bates are world class, while the young talent is also impressive. Sri Lanka on the other hand have a frail batting line-up and despite some tough talking will struggle to make it past the group stage.
