NRL Friday: Titans v Rabbitohs betting tips, prediction & odds, round 7, 2021

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Read on for our Gold Coast Titans v South Sydney Rabbitohs match preview, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at Cbus Super Stadium, Gold Coast, on Friday, April 23.

This is the earlier match on Friday and we think it will be a more riveting contest than the Parramatta-Brisbane Broncos match to follow at 7.55pm from TIO Stadium in Darwin.

Titans coach Justin Holbrook will have read his team the riot act and they will be pumped up after being embarrassed 36-0 by resurgent Manly at Mudgee in the latest round.

That loss came as a massive shock considering the hype around the Titans, who are expected to make the finals this season after a recruiting spree landed them boom back-rowers David Fifita and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, who won’t play the Bunnies this week.

Gold Coast are sitting 3-3 and seventh on the table but need a big scalp to add some legitimacy to their campaign.

Souths fit that bill perfectly as they are second favourites for the title behind Penrith and have won five of their first six matches this season, including the past five on end.

The Rabbitohs have also won their past four matches against the Gold Coast by an average of 11.5 points.

Titans v Rabbitohs team news for round 7

The big news is of course the absence of Souths fullback Latrell Mitchell, who was banned four matches for his late hit on Wests Tigers flyer David Nofoaluma in last weekend’s narrow win.

South have also lost winger Josh Mansour (hamstring) so there has been something for a reshuffle in their powerful back-line.

Fortunately for them they have plenty of depth, with winger Alex Johnston taking the No.1 jersey and Jaxson Paulo coming into the side on that wing. Dane Gagai moves from centre to wing to replace Mansour.

For Gold Coast, Tino Fa’asuamaleaui’s one-match suspension for a shoulder charge means Moeaki Fotuaika starts, with Sam McIntyre joining the bench. The Titans also regain veteran winger Anthony Don after a hip injury, with  Jonus Pearson making way.

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted free Gold Coast-Souths tips for Friday night’s game.

Gold Coast +6.5 points/match total over 40.5

This doubles option is paying $3.50 with Aussie bookies TopSport. The weather forecast is clear and both these teams like to play expansive football so you can expect the points to flow. We expect this one to go down to the wire as the Bunnies don’t look quite as dangerous without Mitchell lurking at the back.

Damien Cook to score a try

The dynamic Souths hooker has scored one try from his six matches this season but he is always a threat. Souths as a rule don’t score often through their pack players but they might need to play a little more through the middle in this match with the reshuffled back line. Cook will be front and centre.

Gold Coast Titans v South Sydney Rabbitohs prediction 23-4-2021

A great match-up looms between one team that is already stamped as a serious contender and another that wants to earn its stripes and see some action in the finals. The home-ground advantage must count for something, and Souths took until the death to get the better of the determined Wests Tigers last week. We sense a slight upset brewing here. Our Titans v Rabbitohs prediction: Titans by 2 points.
