NRL Round 20 odds, schedule and times

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

The 20th and final round of the NRL kicks off on Thursday night, September 24, with a Queensland derby and runs until Sunday evening. Our NRL betting expert has examined the odds in our usual Monday column highlighting what league action is on for the week ahead.

Brisbane are outsiders at $1.98 against the NQ Cowboys ($1.85) in a match the Broncos must win to possibly avoid the first wooden spoon in the club’s history. Either way, it will mercifully bring an end to a season of disasters for the proud Brisbane club, who parted ways coach Anthony Seibold and rarely were even competitive through the middle part of the season.

The action on Friday night is highlighted by another derby with premiership favourites the Roosters looking far too accomplished for the disappointing Souths. These teams really dislike each other but unless something dramatic changes, it’s hard to see the Rabbitohs causing an upset.

The most important matches of the round come on Saturday evening, with Canberra ($1.25) needing to beat injury ravaged Cronulla ($3.90), then hoping Wests Tigers ($3.75) can cause a big upset against Parramatta ($1.27) so the Raiders can land fourth place heading into the finals.

The round finishes on Sunday with a couple of matches, with New Zealand Warriors facing Manly, who are another team that will be glad to close the curtain on what has been a horrendous season injury-wise. The Warriors have exceeded many expectations but will be happy to be heading home after an arduous campaign.

We urge caution if betting on the final match between Melbourne Storm and St George Illawarra as the Storm have a hefty injury toll and may put out a severely weakened line-up with the finals looming.

NRL Premiership odds before Round 20

There was little movement at the top of premiership betting heading into the last round of the NRL season, with the Roosters still holding sway and having locked in a top-four finish.

Parramatta drifted in betting from $12 out to $15 despite maintaining their grip on fourth spot on the ladder. The Eels just need to beat the Wests Tigers on Saturday night to lock up fourth and get the double chance for the finals.

Meanwhile, the Raiders were $13 to $12 and will be hoping the Eels slip up and they can beat the Sharks so they slip through into fourth.

Bookmakers believe the three other teams bound for the finals have next to no chance, with Souths $21 to $31 after their poor display against the Bulldogs; Newcastle steady at $51 and Cronulla out from $67 to $126. The Sharks’ slide can be traced to the loss of playmaker Shaun Johnson at the weekend to a long-term ruptured achilles.
