South Sydney were no match for the unbeaten Penrith in a 56-12 thrashing in Dubbo, while the Eels were outplayed 28-6 by the inspired Manly.

Nonetheless these teams are sitting fourth and third on the table respectively and this is a vital match in the battle for a top four position on the table, especially with the Panthers and Storm setting such a cracking pace.

Souths have won four of their past five matches against the Eels and beat them comfortably in their two meetings in 2020. First, in round the Rabbits prevailed 38-0 and they repeated the dose in the second week of the finals 38-24 after trailing 18-8 at half-time.

This is the middle match on NRL Super Saturday, with the Panthers playing Canterbury Bankstown from BlueBet Stadium at 3pm, and the Roosters hosting Canberra at Central Coast Stadium from 7.35pm.

Rabbitohs v Eels team news for round 12

The Bunnies pack gets a real boost with Origin hopeful Cameron Murray returning early from an ankle injury, while second-rower Jacob Host (quad)  is also back in the starting 13. They take the places of Liam Knight and Jaydn Su’A, who drop out of the 17.

Winger Josh Mansour (head knock) was ruled out, with Taane Milne taking his place on the wing.

Parramatta must wait another week to regain suspended five-eighth Dylan Brown, while star prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard misses this match because of a high-tackle ban. But they do regain second-rower Marata Niukore on the bench from suspension to balance it out a little.

Oregon Kaufusi takes the starting place vacated by Campbell-Gillard.
