The Broncos caused a major shock last weekend when they beat the Roosters, but it is one thing to overpower a team plagued by a horrendous injury and another altogether to tackle the juggernaut that are the Storm.

In fairness, the Storms also have their share of injuries to key players but they have relentlessly gone about racking up win after win, most of them by comprehensive margin.

Brisbane have lost their past nine matches against Craig Bellamy’s side and it’s hard to imagine the Broncos can end that run this time, even if they are back on home turf.

When these teams met in round four this season the Storm won 40-6, and in their only meeting in 2020 the Storm again lapped them, winning 46-8 at Suncorp Stadium.

Broncos v Storm team news for round 12

As is the way when you are down on your luck, the Broncos head into this encounter having lost a couple of players, prop Matt Lodge and halfback Tyson Gamble, to suspension.

Rhys Kennedy is the man to come into the starting side to replace Lodge, while Anthony Milford again gets a chance to revive his Brisbane career, coming in at No.6 with last week’s hero Albert Kelly moving to No.7.

Promising forward Teui Robati has been rewarded for strong form in the lower grade and will make his debut off the bench, while English centre  Herbie Farnworth returns and pushes Dale Copley out of the 17.

The Storm get ace No.7 Jahrome Hughes back from a calf injury but are still missing Origin star Cameron Munster, fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen and rising hooker Harry Grant, among others.

Broncos v Storm free betting tips

Our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free tips for Thursday night’s game.

Brisbane +20.5 points/over 50.5 points

We are not being drawn back into the Broncos’ fan club; they are far too unreliable for that. But we like this bet on the score that Melbourne are still a long way short of their best team. It did not hurt them last week against the decimated Raiders but in the previous match against the Dragons they were being pushed until the Dragons had a player red-carded.

Xavier Coates 2 tries exactly at $9.25

Aussies bookies TopSport offers markets on the exact number of tries a player will score. For Broncos winger Coates it’s 0 tries $1.50; 1 try $3.20 ; 2 tries $9.25; 3+ tries $26. We will have a small wager on two tries in what could be a free-scoring contest.

Brisbane Broncos v Melbourne Storm prediction 27-5-2021

The Storm have won their past eight matches on end this season and their smallest winning margin has been 16 points. They have just been blowing away teams from the word go, and the first 10 minutes will against be crucial, especially for a flaky team such as the Broncos. The Broncos though are slowly developing some confidence and last week’s effort against the Roosters in Sydney will certainly give them a spring in their step. It might not be enough to worry the Storm but we suspect they will give a better display then they did eight weeks ago when they lost 40-6 in Melbourne. Our Broncos v Storm prediction: Storm to win by 10 points.
