AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

FOOTBALL does not get more passionate than a South Australian Derby, with Port Adelaide favourite to defeat long time foe Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night. Our AFL punting expert has examined the odds and presented his free Port Adelaide v Adelaide tips for their round 2 clash.

While there has been no football for over two months because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a limited number of South Australian fans are likely to be allowed into the game as long as they abide by social distancing measures after a ruling from the state government.

Port Adelaide has received a huge shot in the arm with six time Showdown Medallist Robbie Gray being declared fit to play, although ruckman Scott Lycett will have to pass a fitness test on Friday. The Power have received a last minute blow with Ollie Wines rubbed out for breaching the AFL’s strict coronavirus protocol.

The Crows will be close to full strength for the resumption of games, with talented defender Tom Doedee making his return from a serious knee injury, with Riley Knight (heel) the only first-choice player missing.

The Power, who are at $34 with Unibet for the 2020 AFL premiership, have been been installed a $1.42 favourite to defeat Adelaide ($2.90) with leading AFL bookmaker Unibet.

The Power were convincing in round 1 with an easy victory over strugglers Gold Coast with Travis Boak and Tom Rockliff dominating through the midfield, a task they will not find so easy against the more mature bodies of the Crouch brothers and Rory Sloane.

The Crows were probably the hard-luck story of round 1 after Taylor Walker sprayed a long-range shot in the last 20 seconds of their game against the Sydney Swans, to hand them a three-point victory. The game will mark just the second time former Swan Matthew Nicks has coached the Crows and he will be hoping for a more consistent performance over four quarters.

Port Adelaide v Adelaide betting tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found some value. Here are our Port Adelaide v Adelaide tips:

Robbie Gray to score 2 or more goals

We mentioned it before, but Gray has won the Showdown Medal for best on ground six times for his performance in Port Adelaide vs Adelaide clashes. Unibet is offering $2.30 for the veteran to kick more than 2 in this game, which we think is generous given he has done it in the last six games against the club.

Either team to win by less than 19 points (tri bet)

Some AFL betting sites are posting a market on either team winning by less than 19 points, which we think is a rock solid bet at $2. While last year’s round 16 game between the club’s was a blowout, we think the shorter quarters and a more committed Crows outfit under Nicks should see the game be a bit closer.

Port Adelaide v Adelaide prediction

The Power look to have the edge in talent over their crosstown rival, with the Crows undergoing somewhat of a rebuild following their 2017 grand final loss and a change of coach. But having said this, you can almost throw the form-line out the window in derbies. We think the Power v Crows match is likely to be a lot closer than the odds suggest. Our final Port Adelaide v Adelaide prediction? Power by seven points.
