Carlton v Port Adelaide betting tips, prediction; AFL rd 7 betting preview

RICHMOND will start heavy favourite in betting in the AFL season opener on Thursday night, when they host Carlton at an empty MCG.

The AFL declared the season would start as scheduled, despite the coronavirus crisis and a mixed reaction from fans.

Despite this we have scoured the Richmond v Carlton betting markets and cast our eye over what the bookies down under have to offer ahead of the somewhat traditional clash to the start the season.

The Tigers have been installed as short as 1.28 by some bookmakers, which is no surprise given the premier’s dominance in last year’s grand final, and Carlton’s poor decade.

The Blues will also be missing several first-choice players, including star forward Charlie Curnow and recruit Eddie Betts, which has seen betting sites install them rank $3.60 outsiders.

While we are tipping a Tigers victory against Carlton, we think there is some value to be found in the players betting markets, which you can read about below in our Richmond v Carlton predictions.

Richmond v Carlton odds

Head to head odds: Richmond ($1.28) vs Carlton ($3.60)
Line betting: Richmond -21.5 ($1.90) vs Carlton +21.5 ($1.90)
1st goal-scorer odds: Tom Lynch $7.50, Jack Riewoldt $10, Dustin Martin $11,00, Mitch McGovern $14, Levi Casboult $14.00, Patrick Cripps $19.00.

Richmond v Carlton tips and best bets

The World Gambling List has scoured the betting and odds and here are our Richmond v Carlton tips:

Patrick Cripps to have most possessions

While Richmond may have won the last five times they have played Carlton, it’s through no fault of Blues skipper Patrick Cripps, who has gathered over 30 possessions the last three times the clubs have played. Cripps is paying $3.70 to top Sportsbet’s Group A possessions betting, while he’s also a juicy $4 to get over 35 touches. Bet on Cripps ball-wining ability with confidence.

Dustin Martin to kick 3 or more goals

While Martin might not be the main focal point in the Tigers attack anymore, with Tom Lynch and Jack Riewoldt the big guys, we saw last year just how damaging he can still be. Carlton looks to be well equipped with tall defenders, but the Martin matchup looks less clear cut. We think Jacob Weitering might get first crack at Martin, but we’re confident whoever is on him will have their hands full. Back Martin to kick 3 or more goals with this paying $4.50 with Unibet.

Richmond v Carlton winner prediction – 19/3/2020

Reigning premier Richmond look to be far too strong for Carlton in this contest and the odds reflect it. The Tigers have match-winnners on all lines and we are predicting them to blow the inexperienced Blues away in this one. If we were to bet on the winner we’d take Richmond by 40+ at $3.30.
