Richmond v Melbourne betting tips for April 24

Welcome to our Richmond v Melbourne betting tips and winner prediction for their AFL round 7 clash at the MCG on Friday night.

The Tigers are 6.00 outsiders to defeat Melbourne (1.13) with the Demons fresh off a massive upset against reigning premier Brisbane.

Richmond has also been whacked by the injury stick this year, with this compounded by a concussion to Tim Taranto and injuries to Sam Bank (collarbone) and Maurice Rioli (hamstring) in their 75-point loss to North Melbourne.

The Tigers will be boosted by the inclusion of Jacob Hopper and veteran forward Tom Lynch, with the pair adding some much needed experience.

The Demons in contrast have some seriously good vibes coming out of their camp, following the heart-stopping two-point win over the Lions, and the emergence of some young stars.

The Dees are likely to lose Harrison Petty after he was struggling during the game against Brisbane, with expected delayed concussion, but this has not been confirmed. Changkuoth Jiath looms as a call-up after a minor calf ailment.

Richmond v Melbourne betting predictions

Our AFL betting expert has assessed the markets and found some value Richmond v Melbourne tips:

Jacob Van Rooyen 3+ goals

The talented young key forward has looked a different player with ex-Magpie Brody Mihocek in the line-up. Van Rooyen, Mihocek and Bayley Fritsch all have 10 goals this year, giving them one of the most consistent spreads in the AFL. Van Rooyen is paying 2.18 to kick 3+ with Ladbrokes

Richmond +38.5 points

While we are not expecting an upset in this clash, we do think the Tigers can cover the line, because the losses are mounting at Punt Road, and they desperately need to show something. I’m also expecting a bit of a downer for the Dees against a weaker opponent, after the huge high of defeating the Lions. This option is paying 1.90 with betting sites.

Take the under total points market

While the Demons have proved to be one of the most free-scoring teams in the comp, we suspect the Tigers will turn this one into a scrap, as they try and find some form. The over/under mark is at 188.5 and this looks a touch too high. We’ll take the unders with confidence.

Richmond v Melbourne prediction

Melbourne’s improvement despite losing Clayton Oliver and Christan Petracca has been stunning, even if we’re not sure they can maintain the rage all season. The development of their kids would be pleasing, and they have quickly overtaken their opponent in the rebuild stakes. We just don’t think the Tigers have enough ammo to fire a serious shot in this one, but it might be closer than expected. Our final Richmond v Melbourne prediction? Demons by 11 points.
