Round 4 AFL odds 2021 — Rampaging Swans tipped to go 4-0

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Round 4 of the 2021 AFL season kicks off on Thursday, April 8, and runs until Sunday, April 11. Our AFL betting experts have examined the odds in our regular Monday column taking an early look at the matches for the week ahead.

AFL surprise packets Sydney are at short odds to win their fourth straight game, when they open round 4 against Essendon at the SCG on Thursday night.

The Swans are paying $1.20 to defeat the Bombers ($4.60) after they stunned the AFL world with a demolition job on reigning premier Richmond.

The Bombers also caused a major boilover, eclipsing St Kilda to the tune of 75 points on Saturday, in their most potent display in several years.

On Friday night, Port Adelaide will host Richmond in a battle between two heavyweights reeling from surprise losses to West Coast and Sydney.

The Power are $1.73 favourites to win this contest, with the Tigers paying $2.12, with the odds discrepancy probably down to the Adelaide-based team’s home-ground advantage and a few injury woes for the Tigers.

On Saturday, Western Bulldogs are favourites, priced at $1.56, to defeat the Brisbane Lions ($2.45) with this game set to take place in Ballarat.

The Bulldogs have been a buzz team in 2021 and remain undefeated after three rounds, while Brisbane were exceptionally lucky to win their first game of the year, beating Collingwood with a Zac Bailey kick after the siren.

The twilight game will see St Kilda ($3.17) play host to West Coast ($1.36) and to say the Saints need to respond is an understatement, after their embarrassing display against the Bombers.

Gold Coast will start a narrow favourite, at $1.78, to defeat Carlton ($2.08). Both the Suns and Blues are 1-2 after three rounds and history tells us a win is important to the finals chances of both teams.

Collingwood will be hoping to bounce back to the winners list when they host the GWS Giants at the MCG on Saturday night.

The Magpies are short at $1.28 in the betting and are likely to confront a seriously undermanned Giants, who suffered more injury blows against Melbourne on Sunday.

The early game on Sunday pits North Melbourne ($3.36) against the greatly improved Adelaide ($1.33). The Crows have won two from three to start 2021, with a revitalised Taylor Walker playing a large role in their success, while the Roos have done little to disprove their wooden spoon credentials.

Melbourne ($2.17) can continue their unbeaten streak when they host Geelong ($1.69) at the MCG on Sunday. The Cats will again be without the suspended Patrick Dangerfield, but recruit Jeremy Cameron could play his first game.

Fremantle will finish round 4 of the AFL season when they host Hawthorn at Optus Stadium in a twilight fixture on Sunday. The Dockers are a $1.38 favourite to win this clash and will be hopeful captain Nat Fyfe overcomes his concussion issue.

AFL Premiership odds before Round 4

The big movers in premiership betting have been the surprise packet Sydney Swans, who moved into $11 from $23 just a week ago and could firm further with a match they are expected to win against Essendon this Thursday night at the SCG. The Swans were around the $101 mark to start the season.

Richmond eased from $5 to $5.50 after they were ripped apart by the rampant young Swans but remain at the head of betting. Their clash with Port on Friday night should shape the top of the AFL title markets,.

West Coast moved back from $11 into $8 after they easily beat contenders Port Adelaide in Perth, and they are in great shape early in the season with their big forwards proving a real handful.

Unbeaten Western Bulldogs moved into $9 after another impressive performance, albeit against North Melbourne who have a pathetic percentage of 37.4% and look in for a long, hard season under new coach David Noble.

Another side to have won all three of its game so far is Melbourne, who firmed from $26 into $17 with Unibet.

GWS Giants are headed in the other direction and blew like a gale out from $34 to $67 with AFL betting sites after another beating at the hands of the Demons on Sunday. The Giants need a win against the Magpies on Saturday night or their finals dreams will already be in tatters.
