Round 7 AFL odds 2021 — Tigers-Dogs match of the round

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Round 7 of the 2021 AFL season kicks off on Friday, April 30, and runs until Sunday, May 2. Our AFL betting experts have examined the odds in our regular Monday column taking an early look at the matches for the week ahead.

The clear match of the round is the opening match of the round between Richmond and top team the Western Bulldogs on Friday night.

Richmond are the defending premiers and Bulldogs are unbeaten after six rounds this season, and the bookies have a strong leaning to the Dogs for this one.

The Tigers are rated around $2.55 and the Dogs $1.52 but we urge caution before jumping on either side in this one.

The Dogs were impressive winners against the GWS Giants but will now have to deal with injuries to key players, with powerhouse midfielder Josh Dunkley (shoulder) likely to miss three months, while Tim English (concussion) is also out for the match against the Tigers, along with Lin Jong (hamstring).

But the Tigers have an bigger injury out with Dustin Martin (ankle, concussion) to miss the clash along with midfielder Kane Lambert (calf).

The Tigers are certain to ramp up their manic pressure a notch after their loss to Melbourne and we think they are the value bet early on this match.

There is certainly no value in backing Collingwood at $1.40 against the Gold Coast Suns ($3) on Saturday afternoon. The Pies are on a worrying form slump and another loss here will pile even more pressure on coach Nathan Buckley after their poor display in the Anzac Day loss to Essendon.

The pick of the five Saturday matches is the Brisbane Lions-Port Adelaide match at the Gabba. Both these teams have serious designs on challenging for a flag this season and this clash should be revealing in terms of where they sit.

Bookies have Port $1.67 favourites but on home turf we think the value lies with the Lions at $2.20, though the home team must do it without 2020 Brownlow Medallist Lachie Neale, who has had surgery on his injured ankle and could miss up to eight weeks.

There are three matches on Sunday. Melbourne are perhaps the shortest they have been in an AFL match at $1.02 to beat the winless North Melbourne $15.

Old rivals Essendon and Carlton clash at the MCG, while the round concludes with the western derby between West Coast and Fremantle.

The Eagles have won their past 10 match against Fremantle, so it’ shard to tip the Dockers even though they head in on a three-match winning streak.

AFL Premiership odds before Round 7

Defending premiers Richmond are just holding on to favouritism with leading bookmaker TopSport, out from $4.40 to $4.80 and barely in front of the red-hot Western Bulldogs ($5.50 into $5).

The Dogs sit on top of the table ahead of the other undefeated side Melbourne, with Port Adelaide ($6 to $5.50) just a win behind in third place.

The Demons were big risers in AFL flag betting from $10 to $6.50 after thumping Richmond at the weekend, while Geelong came in from $9 to $7.50 after smashing fellow flag hopefuls West Coast at Kardinia Park. The Eagles were woeful and have blown from $9 to $12 after their near 100-point defeat.

The Sydney Swans are dropping in betting almost as quickly as they rose, out from $16 to $31 after falling to the lowly Gold Coast Suns, a week after suffering their first loss for the season at the hands of GWS Giants.

A clear gap has opened up between the top seven in the market and the rest, with the Swans on the eighth line of betting and then another gap out to Fremantle and St Kilda at $61.
