Ireland Rugby World CUp betting preview and tips

Here are our free predictions for Day 3 of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, on which three matches will be played in Japan.

The first of them is between Italy and Namibia, with the European team a $1.01 favourite in betting to get their RWC’19 campaign off to a great start, while the outsiders are paying $34.00 for the victory.

Ireland v Scotland is shaping as the match of the day, with the two northern hemisphere rivals set to go toe to toe at International Stadium Yokohama in a clash that will shape Pool A. Ireland are $1.31 favourites to win the clash, but Scotland are not without some claims and there has been some money flow in for them.

England are unbackable favourites in their clash against Tonga and while the Pacific team has had some golden moments at past World Cup, we can’t see any upset occurring this time around as the pain of 2015 burns.

Below we’ve given give our betting predictions and analysed the odds for all three matches of the Rugby World Cup 2019 being played on September 22.

Match 5: Pool B – Italy v Namibia

Kick-off: 2.15pm local time (GMT +9)
Venue: Hanazono Rugby Stadium
Head to head odds: Italy $1.01, Namibia $17
Handicap line odds: Italy (-31.5 points) $1.91, v Namibia (+31.5 points) $1.91
Italy v Namibia prediction: The Welwitschias have never won a match at the World Cup and we don’t think there first one will be coming here. While Italy are little chance of going on a winning streak deep into the tournament, they are far too accomplished for their African rivals and should win handsomely.

Best bet for Italy v Namibia RWC2019 match

Italy to win by 31.5 points or more

The Azzurri are a tough outfit but should be able to play a little more expansively against Namibia, and it’s important that they get their attack flowing early. This option is paying around $1.91 with most bookies.

Match 6: Pool A – Ireland v Scotland

Kick-off: 4.45pm local time (GMT +9)
Venue: International Stadium Yokohama
Head to head odds: Ireland $1.31, Scotland $3.45
Handicap line odds: Ireland (-8.5 points) $1.95, v Scotland (+8.5 points) $1.85
Ireland v Scotland prediction: Ireland are favourites to win this clash and they have beaten Scotland in six of their past seven encounters. We don’t think much will change here, although it should be close. Generally matches between these two teams are decided in the forwards, and this time around Ireland’s look stronger and are likely to take control in what is predicted to be some seriously wet weather. We are predicting the Irish to cover the +8.5 line which is paying around $1.90 with most online betting sites. You can get 100-1 odds on Ireland winning the World Cup with one our betting partners, at least for a small amount.

Best bets for Ireland v Scotland RWC2019 match

Jonny Sexton for man of the match

Sexton’s battle with Finn Russell will go a long way to deciding this fixture in the rain, with the two fly-halfs playing such a crucial role in field position for their teams. Sexton will have the ball in his hands plenty and we think he is a serious candidate for man-of-the-match honours, with this paying around the $8.00 mark with leading international betting sites.

Each team to score a try in first half

This bet is paying around $2.50 which we think is pretty good value when you take into consideration Scotland’s scoring output in the last few years. The Scots have tried to mirror their game on the All Blacks and the more attacking brand has led to more scoring.

Match 7: Pool C – England v Tonga

Kick-off: 7.15pm local time (GMT +9)
Venue: Sapporo Dome
Head to head odds: England $1, Tonga $34
Handicap line odds: England (-43.5 points) $1.91, Tonga (+43.5 points) $1.91
England v Tonga prediction: England are hot favourites to begin their RWC’19 campaign in fine style, and we think the bookies have it pretty close to right. We’re predicting England to win easily here, but we also think the -43.5 line might be a bridge too far. We think England will use their full squad in this one, with an eye to their clash against the USA just four days later. Meanwhile we’re choosing to put the Ikale Tahi’s woeful 92-7 loss the All Blacks down to a one-off performance. We’ll be betting on Tonga +43.5 and be relying on them to stop England from running rampant.

Best bets for England v Tonga RWC2019 match

Jonny May to score two tries for England

We actually think Jonny May could top the try-scorers for the entire tournament and he can get off to the perfect start here. May is quick, evasive and in-form and paying a juicy $2.20 to score two tries.

2nd half to be highest scoring

Tonga have a good record at the World Cup for a smaller nation and they tend to lift on the biggest stage. We think the first half will be physical, while the floodgates might open in the second. This is paying around the $1.75 mark.
