Sinner fires Madrid Open warning shot ahead of French Open
Jannik Sinner has sent a clear warning to the rest of the men’s tour ahead of Roland Garros after dismantling Alexander Zverev to win the Madrid Open for the first time.
The world No.1 entered the final as a dominant 1.40 favourite with betting sites, with Zverev drifting to 7.50, and the gulf between the pair was reflected on court as Sinner powered to a 6-1, 6-2 victory. The Italian extended his winning streak to 23 matches and became the first man to win five consecutive Masters 1000 titles, continuing a run that has firmly separated him from the chasing pack.

Sinner was in complete control throughout the Madrid final, converting all four break points he earned while never facing one on his own serve. It was another emphatic display of efficiency and power, and marked his eighth straight win over Zverev, underlining what has become a one-sided rivalry at the top level.
The result further strengthens Sinner’s position heading into the French Open, which begins on May 24, where he is now priced around 1.40 to claim the title. With defending champion Carlos Alcaraz withdrawing from the French Open because of a wrist injury, the path has opened up significantly for Sinner to target his first Roland Garros crown.
Having already claimed Masters titles in Monte Carlo, Miami and Indian Wells this season, Sinner now turns his attention to the Italian Open, which runs from May 6–17, as the final key lead-up before the French Open in Paris later in the month.
In the women’s draw, Marta Kostyuk claimed the Madrid title with a straight sets win over Mirra Andreeva. The Ukrainian is paying 17.00 to win the French Open later this month, with Aryna Sabalenka the favourite at 3.00.
