MATCH INFO
South Africa v Bangladesh
Venue: The Oval, London, 10.30am (British time)
Head to head odds: South Africa $1.25; Bangladesh $3.85
Last time they met: South Africa 6-369 (50 overs) d Bangladesh 169 (40.4 overs) in East London, South Africa, 2017.

WE are predicting South Africa will kick-start its ICC World Cup campaign against Bangladesh at The Oval on Sunday.

The Proteas’ opening match was a 104-run thrashing at the hands of World Cup host England, who exposed their frail middle order.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh, who some are tipping to progress past the group stages of the tournament, will be looking to heap further misery on to their more experienced opponent.

South Africa has been installed a $1.25 favourite to win this match, while Bangladesh has been priced at $3.85.

Not much went right for the Proteas in their opening match after they restricted England to just over 300, with opener Hashim Amla forced to retire hurt, before resuming late in the innings, when it was all but over.

The only South African batsman to fire was our opening match best bet Quinton de Kock, who survived a remarkable incident where he bottom edged Adil Rashid on to his stumps, which lit up even though the bails were not dislodged.

While it was only their opening match of the tournament, if the Proteas’ record goes 0-2 including a loss to Bangladesh we can probably put a line through them.

This South Africa-Banglesh betting preview and predictions article will run you through betting options for match 5 of 48 of the ICC World Cup 2019.

Top batter prediction: It’s again hard to look past Quinton de Kock in top batter betting in the South Africa v Bangladesh clash. The South African ace may have looked a little scratchy in his opening knock, but now the cobwebs are gone and he’s facing a weaker bowling attack. De Kock is paying $3.50 with WilliamHill.com which looks a good bet. Aiden Markram was the other batsman who looked super-composed against England and he’s paying $4.5 to score most runs for the Proteas. Liton Das is developing into a wonderful one-day cricketer and he’s paying $5 to top Bangladesh run-scorers.

Top bowler tip: We’re tipping Bangladesh won’t often have faced a pace barrage like the one they are going to cop from the South Africans on Sunday. You heard it here first, our best bet for the South Africa-Bangladesh clash is fiery paceman Kagiso Rabada, who is paying $3.75 for most wickets.

WGL best bets: South Africa v Bangladesh

Each of our ICC World Cup betting previews will highlight some potential wins for punters, or where our cricket tipsters think there is value to be found.

Kagiso Rabada top South Africa wicket-taker

The South African spearhead snared a couple of wickets in the opening match against England and should be better for the hitout. He is at $3.75 to take the most wickets for his team. We also might have a small wager on Rabada to be man of the match. He is a class act and should prove a real handful for Bangladesh.

Aiden Markram total runs bet

William Hill has set the over/under runs betting on Markram at 33.5. We think the promising No.3 will get a great chance in this match and will back him to score over 33.5 at $1.83.

South Africa v Bangladesh prediction

In hindsight Bangladesh’s recent efforts in the warm-up series against the West Indies and Ireland have serious merit, given how well the Windies have performed in later warm-ups and their opening-match demolition of Pakistan. But South Africa have a seriously strong bowling line-up, at least. At the time of writing the expected dominance of bat over ball had really failed to materialise. We expect the South Africans to turn up the heat early with a short-pitched barrage. They can’t afford to go 0-2 in the tournament, with a match against powerhouse India next up. They should win but $1.25 is a little short for our taste.
