St Kilda v West Coast betting tips, prediction & odds; AFL rd 17 preview 2020

Welcome to our St Kilda v West Coast betting tips, prediction and odds update ahead of their AFL round-17 clash at the Gabba on Thursday night.

In a clash with huge repercussions on the final makeup of the top eight, the Saints have been backed into favourites with the injury-hit Eagles suffering several more blows in the lead-up to the clash.

St Kilda are now paying $1.62 and the Eagles $2.30, while the $1.90 line has been set at at 6.5 points.

A win for St Kilda would see them draw level with West Coast on 40 points, but a loss would put their position in the top eight in question with one game left against the GWS Giants.

The Eagles could secure a spot in the top four if they win and Geelong can defeat Richmond on Friday night, but will remain in fifth if the Cats lose. An Eagles loss and they can kiss their top-four chances goodbye but they have done enough to have guaranteed their top eight position.

The Saints are coming off a 14-point victory over Hawthorn on Sunday which was given more merit because of the absence of forward marking targets Tim Membrey and Max King.

West Coast last played on Sunday night when they lost to the Western Bulldogs by two points, but could have lost by more, as their opponents squandered numerous opportunities.

The Saints have recalled King, Membrey and Nick Hind for the clash, with Ed Phillips, Jon Marsh and Ryan Abbott all omitted.

The Eagles have been forced into making six changes with Dom Sheed headlining the fresh injuries. Brendon Ah Chee, Jack Redden, Lewis Jetta and Mark Hutchings are also injured. Tall Tom Hickey has been dropped.

Jack Petrucelle, Jarrod Brander, Nic Naitanui, Shannon Hurn and Will Schofield have all been recalled. Hamish Brayshaw, the brother of Angus and Andrew, will also make his debut.

St Kilda v West Coast tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Saints v Eagles tips for Thursday’s game.

St Kilda to win 1-39

The West Coast that dominated teams just a few week ago on their home deck appears to have disappeared as they endure their second troublesome hub experience. This time, it’s been brought on more by injuries than unrest, but St Kilda need to win this game to mark themselves as a legitimate premiership threat. If they can’t beat an undermanned West Coast here, we don’t think they can do much damage in the finals. The Eagles are too professional to be thrashed and the $1.81 on a 1-39 margin for St Kilda win looks good value.

Jack Lonie to kick 2+ goals

St Kilda livewire Jack Lonie has only recently come back into the team after injury and was crucial with two goals in their narrow win over Hawthorn. The likes of Lonie and Dan Butler are going to be important again, with rain predicted for Brisbane on Thursday night. We’ll take Lonie just because he is offering more value to kick 2+ at $5.50.

Over/Under betting

At the time of writing our St Kilda v West Coast tips, the match over/under line had been set at 113.5 with both options paying $1.88. We think with a bit of rain about and so much on the line, the contest will be pretty hot and low-scoring. We’re pretty confident the unders is a good leg for your multis.

St Kilda Saints v West Coast Eagles prediction 10/9/2020

St Kilda look to be a little bit more settled than their opponent heading into this clash and they will be much stronger with King and Membrey in their forward line. While the Eagles will enjoy having Naitanui back dominating the centre square, they are just missing too much class in all parts of the ground. We are particularly looking forward to seeing how Rowan Marshall and Paddy Ryder fare against Naitanui. Our final St Kilda v West Coast prediction? Saints by 14 points.
