The Strikers’ fighting win took them into third place and they leaped over the Thunder, who are now fourth. But with a BBL10 triple-header looming on Tuesday to close out the regular season, the losers of this match could find themselves out of the finals altogether if other results go against them.

That’s hard to believe for the Thunder, who were travelling beautifully for much of the season and scoring freely. But they have dropped four out of their past five matches and another loss in this could consign their season to the dustbin.

The winners of this Strikers-Thunder clash, if they claim all four points on offer, are near certain to finish the regular season in third place.

The Adelaide team has done well to regroup after losing Rashid Khan to international duties with Afghanistan. Of course it helps that they have Travis Head and Michael Neser back from Test duties. Head is a wonderful domestic cricketer and really makes the Strikers look a lot more dangerous. The Thunder really need a big one from powerhouse opener Alex Hales, who may should temper his approach against the high-quality early bowling from the likes of Agar, Siddle and Worrall.
