Sydney v Western Bulldogs tips for Friday, July 3

Welcome to our Sydney v Western Bulldogs betting tips and winner prediction for their AFL round 17 clash at the SCG on Friday night.

The Swans (1.42) are heavy favourites to defeat the Bulldogs (2.92) for a second time this season, although the visitors will take solace in having defeated the Swans in Sydney last year.

Sydney is fresh off a 43-point thrashing at the hands of Brisbane with their midfield beaten up by the reigning premier, and putting a dent in their premiership aspirations

The Swans have also suffered a major blow with key forward Joel Amartey suffering a partial tear of his Achilles, which could end his season. They have also lost talented runner Sam Wicks (hamstring) to an injury suffered at training on Monday.

The Bulldogs have one of the healthiest lists in the AFL, with Sam Darcy the only man ruled out for the season. This week they are likely to include Cody Weightman after he was rested following two games back from a long layoff.

Sydney v Western Bulldogs betting tips

WGL’s AFL betting expert has assessed the markets and found some value Sydney vs Bulldogs tips:

Charlie Curnow 3+ goals

Curnow has not set the AFL alight in his first season at the Swans but did slam through seven goals against the Dogs earlier this year. With Amartey and Papley both out of the Swans’ line-up, he needs to fire on Friday night, and if he doesn’t his team might struggle to kick a winning score. Curnow is paying 1.70 to kick 3+ goals.

Ed Richards 25+ possessions

The outstanding form of Ed Richards is giving the Dogs a huge leg-up, with it allowing Marcus Bontempelli to play forward at times. Richards is nice value at 1.70 to reach 25+ possessions.

Will Lewis 2+ goals

Lewis adds a hard edge to the Bulldogs forward line and has been a consistent goal-kicker. We like him for 2+ goals at 3.60, or if you are feeling adventurous, he’s paying 12.00 to kick 3+. Other obvious candidates to kick goals for the Dogs include Weightman, Arty Jones and Bontempelli, who has regularly played up front this year.

Sydney v Western Bulldogs prediction

The Swans beat up the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium earlier this season, but there were mitigating circumstances, with key defenders James O’Donnell and Rory Lobb absent, which allowed Curnow to boot seven goals. We just can’t see the Dogs being as poor this time, and it’s the Swans having to adapt to injuries, with Amartey and Wicks joining Tom Papley and Justin McInerney on the sidelines. While we won’t declare an upset, we expect the Dogs to be in this match deep in the last quarter. Our final Sydney v Western Bulldogs prediction? Swans by six points.
