US Masters 2020

Read on for our Masters betting tips, predictions and preview of the opening golf major of 2021, from Augusta National, Georgia.

The Masters is back in its traditional April slot and is the first big one of the season, after the 2020 edition was played in mid-November because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Big-hitting US star Dustin Johnson, the world No.1, is the defending champion and favourite with betting sites, though it must be remembered the course will play very differently in spring to how it did in the autumn, when all sorts of scoring records were broken with the damp course left vulnerable.

No player has gone back to back at Augusta National since Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002. Incidentally, Woods won’t be at Augusta bidding for his sixth green jacket after his serious car accident in February.

Who will win the 2021 Masters?

The beauty of betting on the Masters is that it is the only golf major played at the same venue each year.

Players who have done well at Augusta previously almost always do well again. Seven of the top 10 finishers in the 2020 November edition of the Masters had previously had top five finishes in the Masters.

Johnson will go in as a deserving favourite as he has the game to overpower the course, with Spieth reemerging as a key challenger with his win in the Texas Open at the weekend, his first tour win since the 2017 British Open.

Spieth loves Augusta and won the Masters in 2015. He also finished second in 2014 and 2016 and third in 2018, a phenomenal record.

But we can make a case for 20 players to win this tournament so in this article we will focus on finding the winner of specific categories of the betting for the tournament.

The course: Some wet weather is forecast so the course may not play that differently to what it was in November. Still, you can expect the greens to be back to their lightning fast best. Short game as always will be crucial.

The power-hitting American Dustin Johnson started the final round with a four-shot lead, and still had a two-shot buffer heading to the back nine. He birdied the 13th, 14th and 15th to become the first player to ever reach 20 under in a Master tournament, before parring the final three holes for his resounding win and a first green jacket.

We will stick with one player in the overall betting this time around and look at a couple of markets which involve selecting the leading players from a certain group or country. Here are our free US Masters Betting Tips:

Justin Thomas to win at $12

If we had to pick one player to back this week it would be the world No.2. Thomas has already won the unofficial fifth major, the Players’ Championship, this season and his Augusta results have been trending in the right direction. You should shop around for value though, with the $12 available at TopSport is about as good as we have spotted.
