Greyville races delayed after heavy rainfall

Gold Circle has postponed Friday’s race meeting at Greyville racecourse, following record rainfall this week.
Gold Circle, which was formed to manage the Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Kenilworth racing clubs, said the decision to postpone the races was made after 82mm of rain fell over two days, and more was expected in the KwaZulu-Natal region.
The region has experienced an exceptionally wet start to 2025, with Durban surpassing its average yearly rainfall, in just four months.
Gold Circle said Friday’s Greyville meeting would now be held on Sunday (April 20), with the meeting scheduled for that day moved to Wednesday (April 23).
Gold Circle said the updated race times for the new dates and any schedule changes would be announced imminently.
Horse racing in South Africa is heading into a key period, with the Durban July, the no.1 race in the country scheduled for July 5, 2025.
