AFL round 13 odds and fixture update

afl round 13 premiership update

Round 13 of the AFL kicks off on Friday night, August 21, after the clubs have had a few days respite from the non-stop AFL frenzy in which 33 matches were played in 20 days.

But there is not much relief for the young Gold Coast Suns, who lost to Richmond on Monday night, but must back up again to face Carlton four days later in Darwin. Gold Coast are rated $2.18 outsiders in early betting against Carlton ($1.67), who escaped with a miracle win on Saturday night with a goal after the siren against Fremantle.

The Suns-Blues clash is one of two matches at TIO Stadium in round 13 as some AFL teams enter the Northern Territory hub for the first time this season.

The match of the round is a close run thing between two of the matches to be played on Sunday.

High-flying Brisbane Lions ($1.42) host chastened St Kilda ($2.85) at the Gabba, while later the West Coast Eagles ($1.33) face one-time premiership favourites GWS Giants ($3.30) in Perth. A victory for the Eagles would really put the heat on the Giants’ hopes of making the finals.

Round 13 runs through until Monday night, when embattled Collingwood ($1.39) attempt to halt their rapid decline against North Melbourne ($2.95) at the Gabba. Those odds seem very generous for the Kangaroos given the Magpies’ injury toll and the way they folded against the middling Melbourne Demons last round.

AFL 2020 premiership betting update

The big movers in premiership betting this week have been Geelong, who firmed from $11 into the third line of betting at $6.50 after their 10-goal humiliation of top team Port Adelaide in round 12.

Many pundits had written off the Cats as just shy of the best teams this season, but the re-emergence of key forward Tom Hawkins, who looks about 10kg lighter than in in recent seasons, has given their attack a real cutting edge.

West Coast Eagles remain firm at the top of betting after stringing together another win, but the bookies have all but put a line through a couple of teams that were heavily fancied not so long ago.

The GWS Giants drifting alarmingly in AFL premiership betting from $8.50 out to $17 after their embarrassing loss in Perth to Sydney rivals the Swans.

Collingwood, meanwhile, moved from $11 out to $15 after being pummeled by the Demons and desperately need to regain some of their injured stars or they can kiss goodbye their premiership dream.

The Demons were big movers from $51 into $19 and have a match in hand thanks to an earlier match against Essendon being postponed because of a COVID-19 scare.
