Gold Coast v Carlton betting tips, prediction & odds update; AFL Rd 13 preview

Welcome to our Gold Coast v Carlton betting tips, prediction and odds update ahead of their AFL round 13 clash being played at Tio Stadium, Darwin, on Friday night.

AFL fans have had since Monday night off following 33 matches across 20 days in the AFL’s Footy Frenzy, which was launched following the 2020 season being seriously impacted by COVID-19.

Carlton who opened at $1.65 in the betting have shortened into around the $1.50 quote, with the Suns blowing out to as long as $2.70 with some AFL bookmakers. The $1.90 was originally set at 7.5 points by, but this has been adjusted to 10.5 as game day draws closer.

Carlton and Gold Coast are still in finals contention, but a win in this clash seems almost mandatory if either team is to make a late-season charge. The Blues are on 24 points, just four behind eighth-placed Melbourne, and Gold Coast are on 18 points, giving them a mathematical possibility of making the finals.

The Blues are coming off a miracle victory after the siren against Fremantle, when Jack Newnes converted a set shot from the boundary, following on from a controversial free kick. The victory was the Blues’ second in four matches and gives them a chance of playing finals in coach David Teague’s first full season in charge.

Gold Coast are coming off a 21-point loss to reigning premiers Richmond, but arguably played their best half of football for the season in the opening half. The excitement generated by players such as Izak Rankine and Jack Lukosius has Suns fans believing they might finally be on the right path.

Carlton’s win over the Dockers was just reward after a hard four-game block of toil that included a win over North Melbourne, a tough loss to Hawthorn and a fighting loss to West Coast. They are now in the top eight mix with winnable clashes against the Suns, Collingwood, GWS and Sydney in their next four-game block

The Suns will regain midfielder David Swallow and defender Jarrod Harbrow for the clash, while coach Stuart Dew has also included Sean Lemmens to freshen his team up off a four-day break. Alex Sexton, Nick Holman and Brayden Fiorini have been dropped.

Carlton has named ruckman Marc Pittonet and boom recruit Jack Martin with the pair returning from injury. Matthew Kennedy suffered a knock against Fremantle and has been ruled out and Josh Honey has been dropped.

Gold Coast v Carlton tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Suns v Blues betting tips for Friday’s game.

Who will score more in second half betting

Unibet is running a market on the Gold Coast vs Carlton clash on who will score the most points in the second half. This is a feat we think the Blues will achieve. Patrick Cripps’ team has had two extra days rest for the clash against the young Suns, who were well and truly up and about against the Tigers. The Blues are short at $1.66, but we think you can almost bank this money, making it a safe leg for your multibets.

Gold Coast to lead at half-time and lose the match

This Suns v Blues tip is operating on much the same theory as our first tip, but we’re backing the Suns to continue their consistent effort and outpoint the Blues in the opening half.  Carlton have not blown teams away in their wins and the Suns will give it everything. But ultimately they will fall away in the second half as the fresher legs of the Blues kick in. This bet is available at Unibet under the Half Time/Full Time batting tab, with our selection paying $6.50.

Noah Anderson to get 20 possessions or more

The Gold Coast emerging star played the best game of his short career against the Tigers, gathering 26 touches as he assumed more midfield minutes with David Swallow out of the line-up. And while Swallow will return after his rest, we think Suns coach Stuart Dew will have liked what he saw against the Tigers and keep Anderson around the ball. We’re also backing Anderson’s young legs to bounce back off the short break. The $3.50 is just too tempting here and we think these types of odds on Anderson’s possession count could become a rare thing in the not-too-distant future, so it’s time to cash in.

Gold Coast Suns v Carlton Blues prediction 21/8/2020

These are two teams on the rise but Carlton look to have an edge in experience and and more importantly an extra two days rest. The Suns, to compound their problems, are coming off a bruising game against Richmond. Carlton producing a “let-down” performance would not have surprised in the past, but they finally look to be building consistency in performance. They would be seriously disappointed to lose this game. But the Suns have plenty to play for, with the finals probably out of the equation if they lose this clash. Our final Gold Coast v Carlton prediction? Blues by 9 points.
