AFL round 5 odds and fixture update

Richmond v St Kilda betting tips, predictions and odds; AFL semi final preview 2020

Carlton and St Kilda will kick off the round at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night after the fixture for round five of the AFL season was turned on its head by strict new measures introduced by the Queensland government.

Round five was due to kick off with West Coast v Richmond at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast on Thursday, but the Qld government stepped in with the following rulings, meaning that three matches in round five had to be changed to comply.

Queensland or Queensland-based teams which play a Melbourne team in Queensland or play in Melbourne themselves are required to quarantine for 14 days on returning to Queensland,

Further, a Queensland or Queensland-based team which plays in another state against a team which has been in Melbourne in the preceding 14 days is required to quarantine on their return to Queensland.

This will likely mean big changes to the round six draw and subsequent rounds, forcing the teams to adapt quickly.

Richmond will now stay in a Melbourne and play Melbourne on Sunday; the Sydney Swans head north to play the Eagles on Saturday; and the St Kilda-Carlton game was moved from the MCG on Saturday to Marvel Stadium on Thursday.

The match of the round still looms as the Brisbane Lions hosting Port Adelaide at the Gabba on Saturday night. The Power are the only unbeaten team left in the comp, while the Lions have been in ominous form since the restart.

The Geelong-Gold Coast match at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday should be another highlight and a great test of how far the Suns have come this season. The Suns have won three match on end but the next frontier will be winning away from home and GMHBA is a tough trip for any team.

AFL 2020 premiership betting update

Greater Western Sydney and Port Adelaide were the big upward movers near the top of AFL premiership betting after round four victories.

The Giants and unbeaten Power firmed from $9 into $7 after victories over Collingwood and West Coast respectively.

Meanwhile, favourites Collingwood eased slightly after their narrow loss to bogy side GWS in which they also lost star defender Jeremy Howe to a serious knee injury.

Richmond remain second favourites despite their thrashing at the hands of St Kilda; it may be a blessing in disguise that they can stay at home to play Melbourne rather than travel to take on a similarly desperate Eagles outfit.

West Coast are out the gate in premiership betting to $12 and surely cannot wait to get back to their WA base after a torrid time during their stay in the Gold Coast hub.

Brisbane Lions have risen in premiership betting to $10, with the Western Bulldogs also back in the mix after a couple of big wins.
