AFL round 9 odds and fixture update

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Th AFL odds for round 9 of the 2020 season have been released, with the top-flight Aussie rules competition set to play 33 games across 20 consecutive days.

With so much uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, the AFL is using a rolling fixture, allowing them flexibility with where and when games are being played. This means starting Wednesday night there will be AFL on daily for close to three weeks.

The Western Bulldogs ($2.10) will go into their clash against Richmond ($1.72) on Wednesday night as outsiders, after narrowly trumping the Gold Coast last Thursday. The Tigers will also be disappointed after losing to GWS by 12 points, with both clubs in danger of slipping out of the top eight with a loss.

Melbourne face their second litmus test in as many weeks with a clash against Port Adelaide on Thursday night, with the Demons narrowly falling short against equal top-placed Brisbane. The Demons are priced at $2.28 to cause an upset at the Gabba, while Port Adelaide ($1.61) will be hoping to rebound from their horrible loss to St Kilda.

Carlton will be hoping to stake a claim for a top eight position when they clash with Hawthorn at Optus Stadium on Friday night. The Blues’ odds have been set at around the $1.50 mark, with the out-of-sorts Hawks priced at $2.61, after their loss to the Sydney Swans.

The Brisbane Lions are a $1.39 favourite for their clash against Essendon at Metricon Stadium, which will be the second and later game on Friday night. The Lions managed to keep the Demons at bay, although coach Chris Fagan may look to fresh legs after fading badly in the second half as the Demons almost snatched a victory. There is not much love for the Dons in this one, priced at $2.93.

On Saturday, North Melbourne will go into their clash against the Adelaide as $1.50 favourites, with the struggling Crows, yet to taste a win in 2020, priced at $2.54. It has hardly been smooth sailing for the Kangaroos either, sitting second bottom, with just two wins after a seven-point loss to Carlton.

Much improved St Kilda are at $1.48 to beat the Sydney Swans ($2.60) at the Gabba on Saturday evening, with the Saints sliding into third position after their victory over the Power. The Swans also recorded a strong victory against Hawthorn, after going into the match as an underdog.

New flag favourites West Coast ($1.35) will clash with Geelong ($3.14) on Saturday night, with the Eagles impressive in their dismissal of fellow premiership contender Collingwood. The Eagles will be buoyed by the form of boom recruit Tim Kelly, who will look to put his old team to the sword, following a prolonged contract battle that saw the midfielder forced to stay at the Cats for a season against his will.

The battle of the expansion clubs will be a highlight of the weekend, with the Gold Coast priced at $2.48 to cause an upset against GWS ($1.52), with the Sydney-based club getting some measure of revenge against Richmond for last year’s grand final thrashing.

Round 9 of the AFL season will finish with Fremantle hosting Collingwood, with the Magpies desperate to make up for their loss to the Eagles. The Dockers and Magpies both have injury concerns but should regain several stars. The Magpies are the favourite in betting at $1.34, while the Dockers are paying $3.18.

AFL 2020 premiership betting update

West Coast have taken over at the top of the AFL 2020 premiership betting, moving into $5 outright favourites after obliterating Collingwood on Sunday.

It’s a far cry from a month ago when the Eagles were far from home in the Queensland hub and barely looked like winning a game. Now they are on home turf and look close to unbeatable.

This is a reminder for punters to consider the topsy-turvy nature of this unique 2020 season. All teams seem to be going through some low ebbs.

Elsewhere the Brisbane Lions eased from $6 to $6.50 after scraping past Melburne and the Magpies fell from $6.50 to $8.50.

Port Power were $7 out to $9 after their humbling at home by St Kilda, who moved from $26 to $21 after their two big wins at the Adelaide Oval.

Brisbane star Lachie Neale remains a $2 Brownlow Medal favourite after another convincing display against Melbourne.
