Australian racing tips for April 25
With the incredible Sydney Autumn Carnival in the rear-view mirror for another year, there is still plenty of quality Australian racing to keep you entertained.
Our resident tipsters were largely on the money in the past weeks at Randwick, but for Anzac Day we turn our attention and tipping skills to Adelaide, where there are two Group 1 and two Group 2 events to be run and won at Morphettville, and Brisbane, which kicks off its winter carnival with an Eagle Farm meeting.
The main events in Adelaide are the Australasian Oaks for three-year-old fillies and the Robert Sangster Stakes over 1200m, a quality sprint race for the fillies and mares only.
Throw in the Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes and the Queen Of The South Stakes, plus some of the country’s leading jockeys and horses, and you have a tremendous meeting for punters to find value and hopefully a few winners.
Read on for our free betting tips and analysis for the best Anzac Day racing in Australia.
Morphettville Race 4
Group 2 Sportsbet Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m)
(4) Cilacap is building towards something special and this could be the right race at the right time for her. She is trained by Grahame Begg and ridden by Jordan Childs, and that combination so often provea deadly for rivals. This is not an easy race though and you could pick half a dozen without finding the winner. That means there is value to be found no matter what you like. (3) Blindedbythelight is the early market mover and she will win if she can reproduce her first-up run when second in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill on March 28. (8) Terilee has not put a hoof wrong lately and has the in-form Daniel Stackhouse on the pigskin, while (17) Maisy gets the blinkers on and could surprise at big odds.
Rupert McIntosh tips: 4,17,3,8. Best bet: Cilacap each-way, plus box trifecta with our tips and one of your own.
Morphettville Race 6
Group 2 Sportsbet Tobin Bronze Stakes (1200m)
This Group 2 three-year-old sprint has attracted a progressive field and the Written Tycoon colt (2) Tycoon Star heads the betting for the Hayes team and James McDonald. He has just missed at his past two at Flemington and this track and should get all the favours from a good gate. (1) Legacy Bound has good form aligning with that of Tycoon Star and has won four of only seven starts. But we are looking elsewhere at a couple of horses with enormous upside in the filly (16) Extragalactic, which has sizzled at two runs from a spell. She is drawn wide but will get back and has the in-form Zac Lloyd across from Sydney to ride. (9) Inkaruna disappointed as favourite in Sydney last start but she is all talent and is from the sharp Anthony and Sam Freedman stable. (7) Mathematician is a smart gelding who is still learning the caper but can surprise..
Rupert McIntosh tips: 16,9,2,7. Best bet: Extragalactic each-way at around $7.
Morphettville Race 7
Group 1 Sportsbet Australasian Oaks (2000m)
The Group 1 brings together some the season’s best three-year-old fillies over a testing 2000m. It’s hard to go past (2) Getta Good Feeling, which is a clear-cut favorite and chasing a hat-trick for trainer Danny O’Brien after a dominant preparation in Melbourne. Drawn perfectly in barrier five, she is a daughter of So You Think with four wins and four placings from only nine starts. She will be challenged by a couple of smart fillies who competed well in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes in Sydney recently. Ciaron Maher’s (3) Salty Pearl and market mover (4) Panova, which has superstar James McDonald in the saddle, both look suited. (9) Stung was bitterly disappointing last start but we are prepared to give her another chance at huge odds with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.
Rupert McIntosh tips: 2,4,9,3. Best bet: Getta Good Feeling is destined for even bigger things.
Morphettville Race 8
Group 1 Sportsbet Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m)
The Robert Sangster Stakes is wide open in 2026, with the early favourite (3) Generosity from the Chris Waller stable at around $5.50, but there are another four or five fillies and mares that could start favourite. The race has historically been a great battleground between rising three-year-old fillies with light weights and seasoned four-year-old mares and older. This year the promising 17. Point Barrow fits the bill as a promising filly though we also give the only other youngster in the race, (16) My Gladiola, a strong knockout chance. (4) Benedetta is a high-class type and she will appreciatre a drop in class from running in the Newmarket Handicap and William Reid Stakes. She should get all the favours from gate three with Jamie Melham in the saddle. (2) Charm Stone returns to defend her crown from last year’s Sangster but a tricky wide barrier presents a challenge. With (1) Skybird finding peak form and WA raider (5) Super Smink looming, expect a frantic finish.
Rupert McIntosh tips: 16,4,3,17. Best bet: My Gladiola each-way. She is an underrated type who should be in the right spot in the run.
Eagle Farm Race 7
Ladbrokes Mick Dittman Plate (1000m)
We’ll have a look at one race in Brisbane as their carnival nears, with the Anzac Day meeting at Eagle Farm featuring some strong listed races and plenty of depth to the betting markets. The Mick Dittman Plate is a 1000m dash for the flyers and we think (5) Akaysha can give this a real shake for Chad Schofield. The daughter of Capitalist should get every chance from gate two in a race where the speed is likely to be right on. (8) Sylph is still a maiden after seven starts and will likely get back in the field but she will be motoring home. (6) Military Tycoon is from the powerful Ciaron Maher stable and will be right in the finish for top Brisbane jockey Ben Thompson.
Rupert McIntosh tips: 5,8,6,7. Best bet: Try a box quinella 5,6,8 with Australian betting sites.
