Bose steps into Alliance for Gambling reform hot seat
Sunita Bose has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Australia’s Alliance for Gambling Reform (AGR), taking charge of the advocacy group as it pushes for stronger measures to reduce gambling harm.
Bose officially began the role on August 24, replacing Martin Thomas, who stepped down for family reasons.
She joins AGR after serving as Managing Director of the Digital Industry Group (DIGI), where she was involved in regulatory policy covering online harms, data and consumer protection. She has also held senior roles at Change.org, Oxfam and UNICEF.
AGR Chair Angela Tillmanns said Bose brought “deep industry and regulatory expertise” and an ability to “build coalitions and drive legislative change”.
Bose said she would work alongside AGR Chief Advocate Tim Costello as pressure for further gambling reform builds in Australia.
“Australia has the highest gambling losses per person in the world, far exceeding the US and other countries,” Bose said.
“I’m inspired by the prospect of working with them and the Alliance for Gambling Reform team to influence such a high-impact issue at an inflection point for reform.”
Australians are sports betting mad with the AFL, NRL, horse racing and cricket holding particular sway.
