Magpies v Suns betting tips, prediction and odds; AFL round 7 preview 2021

Welcome to our Collingwood v Gold Coast tips, predictions and odds analysis for their AFL round 7 clash at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

Collingwood are in a perilous position with just one win after six rounds and could slip completely out of finals calculations if they drop this game, after succumbing to Essendon on Anzac Day.

Gold Coast are coming off a 40-point victory over Sydney at home on Saturday, with this performance clearly their best effort this season, despite the Swans’ loss of form after their early season high.

Friday Night: Richmond v Western Bulldogs tips

The Magpies are the bookies’ elect for this clash, priced at $1.50, while the Gold Coast ($2.60) are outsiders with Australian betting sites

Collingwood will blood another debutant, with Caleb Poulter earning a call-up on the back of 27 possessions against Essendon int the VFL. Forward Jordan De Goey is also likely to be included as long as he is cleared of his concussion, suffered against West Coast.

Gold Coast will be tempted to include ruckman Zac Smith to combat Brodie Grundy, although the big man is only a few games deep in a comeback from a long-term injury. However the season-ending knee to Jarrod Witts could force Stuart Dew’s hand.

Collingwood v Gold Coast tips

The Magpies are the bookies’ elect in this game, but Gold Coast deserve to be respected. Our AFL betting expert has cast their eye over the markets and found some value Collingwood v Gold Coast tips.

Beau McReery to kick 2+ goals

Collingwood small Beau McReery is possibly their most likely small forward since Leon Davis prowled the forward line. McReery, a mature age recruit from South Australia, has kicked goals in each of his two games for the Magpies. He is offering some nice value at $1.91 to kick 2+ goals against the Suns.

Noah Anderson to have 30+ possessions

Collingwood have allowed opposition midfielders to rack up huge possessions counts in recent games, highlighted by Anzac Medallist Darcy Parrish gathering over 40 on Sunday. Young Gold Coast star Noah Anderson was prolific against Sydney with 34 possessions and we’re willing to back him in again to do it against the unaccountable Magpies. He is paying $3.25 to gather over 30 touches.

Collingwood Magpies v Gold Coast Suns prediction 1/5

Collingwood face a serious test against a Gold Coast team that has never beaten them at the MCG. The young Suns look to have more spread through the midfield, but Collingwood have more experience down back. The burning question is whether Magpies captain Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom can lift their team out of the doldrums, against a greatly improved Suns. If this wasn’t at the MCG we’d be taking the Suns with confidence, but we think this might end up a low-scoring arm-wrestle, which will suit the Magpies. Our final Collingwood v Gold Coast prediction? Magpies by two points.
