Richmond v Western Bulldogs betting tips and prediction; AFL round 7 preview 2021

Welcome to our Richmond v Western Bulldogs tips, prediction and odds analysis ahead of their AFL round 7 clash at the MCG on Friday night.

Richmond is in the unusual position of underdog with star Dustin Martin joining several others on the sidelines, after suffering a concussion last round against Melbourne.

The Tigers gun is now reported to be flying to New Zealand to see his father, with Richmond supporters sure to be nervous about the ever-changing border restrictions surrounding Covid-19. But they might be even more nervous by the form of their team which has fallen to 3-3 after six rounds after a 34-point loss to the Demons.

The Bulldogs have also suffered a  crushing blow with Josh Dunkley set to undergo a shoulder reconstruction, which is likely to keep him out until very late in the season. Injury-plagued midfielder Lin Jong has also been ruled out for up to three months, while ruckman Tim English has been ruled out with concussion following a nasty friendly fire incident in their win over GWS.

Luke Beveridge’s men have had a decent run with injury in their unbeaten start to the season, with the Dunkley and English injuries the first real test of their depth. The Dunkley mishap is also a blow to AFL punters, with the prolific midfielder becoming a favourite of multi bettors in recent years.

The Tigers are priced at $2.50, which is the longest we have seen them in several years, with the Bulldogs shortening by the hour into $1.54. The $2 line has been set at -10.5 points by TopSport.

Richmond v Western Bulldogs betting tips

Our AFL betting expert has cast his eye over the markets and found some Richmond v Melbourne betting selections:

Adam Treloar to have 30+ possessions

Treloar and Richmond have a chequered history after he famously slighted their list before joining Collingwood. But we think the hard-running midfielder will have the last laugh in this contest and notch up 30+ possessions, with his inside midfield minutes, where he tends to rack up possessions, likely to increase following Dunkley’s injury. Treloar is paying $1.55 to gather 30+ touches.

Jason Castagna to kick 2+ goals

Players like Jason Castagna, Shane Edwards and Daniel Rioli will have a crucial role in trying to stop the Bulldogs’ rebound. We don’t think Richmond can win unless their smalls play well up forward, with no Dusty to cover for them this time. Castagna has been in strong form and has the smarts and experience to cause trouble for the Bulldogs. He is paying $2.25 to kick 2+ goals.

Either team by 15 points or less (Tri Bet)

Richmond’s last two starts as an underdog have resulted in them losing by 15 points or less, with the latest example being their gritty performance against Port Adelaide. Make no mistake the Dogs have lost two very important players and the Tigers are coming off a very disappointing outing, which generally means the will respond. We just can’t see this one being a blowout and either team to win under 15.5 is paying $2.60.

Richmond v Western Bulldogs prediction 30/4/2021

Richmond will take their season record to 3-4 if they lose and with no relief immediately on the injury front, we’re going to be given a good indication of just how good their second tier is. The Tigers have had a remarkable run with injuries to key players during their flag years, but we think this might be a bridge too far at this point of the season. We will be steering clear of betting on the winner though, with this tipster gun shy after being burnt by the reigning premier before. Our final Richmond v Western Bulldogs prediction? Bulldogs by nine points.
