Collingwood v Sydney Swans betting tips, predictions & odds; AFL Rd 10 preview

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Welcome to our betting guide and tips for the Collingwood v Sydney Swans match at the Gabba in Brisbane on Thursday evening.

This is a crucial match for the Magpies, in particular. They were rated among the flag favourites just a couple of weeks ago but ugly losses to the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle have sent them tumbling out of favour.

Throw in a few injuries to key players, a tough travel schedule and just a few days between games and the Magpies are close to crisis.

It’s also a big match for the injury-ravaged Swans, but to many pundits this is seen as very much a transition year for the Sydney side, with few expecting them to contest the finals this time around,

The under-fire Magpies are backing up after Sunday’s 12-point defeat against lowly Fremantle in Perth, while the Swans lost to St Kilda by 53 points just 24 hours earlier at the Gabba.

The Magpies won’t regain ace mifielder and captain Scott Pendlebury, while speedy midfielder Callum Brown (ankle) is racing the clock to be fit.

Gun defender Jeremy Howe (knee) and forward Jordan De Goey (finger) are at least six weeks away.

The Swans are also in bad shape on the injury front, with guns such as Lance Franklin, Isaac Heeney and Josh Kennedy sidelined, but important defender Dane Rampe (broken hand) returned last week and is expected to be ready again to face the Magpies.

Collingwood v Sydney Swans tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several Magpies v Swans tips for Thursday’s game.

Match total over 118.5 point

The weather looms as perfect in Brisbane for this evening clash and we don’t expect goals will be too difficult to come by. Also the alarm bells are ringing about which team will win, given the dismal form of both teams, so this might be a match in which the teams open up and try to play some expansive football. A conservative but sensible bet.

Sam Reid to kick 3+ goals

The big Swans forward seems to save his best for the Magpies, where of course his older brother Ben is a premiership player. Sam Reid kicked six goals against the Pies last season, while the Magpies have really struggled to contain power forwards Josh Kennedy of the Eagles and Matt Taberner of the Dockers in recent games.

Collingwood v Sydney prediction 6/8/2020

The past couple of matches between Collingwood and Sydney have gone down to the wire. Last time out the Magpies prevailed by seven points in 2019 despite six goals from big Swan Sam Reid, while in 2018 the Swans won by two points in a big upset. This result will come down to the fitness of the side and how well Collingwood have coped with the travel from Perth. The Magpies have must-win matches in their next three rounds against Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne and we think they should be able to scrape over the line in this one. Our final Collingwood v Sydney Swans prediction? Magpies by 10 points.
