Gold Coast Suns v Western Bulldogs betting tips, predictions and odds update; AFL Rd 8 preview

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Welcome to our preview of the Gold Coast-Western Bulldogs game at the Gold Coast to kick off round eight of the AFL season on Thursday night.

The Suns and Dogs are in seventh and ninth places on the AFL ladder respectively, and both have four wins and three losses from their seven matches. In the truncated 2020 season, this match will count for plenty for two teams with claims to finish in the top eight at least.

The Bulldogs have shrugged off a slow start to the season to win four of their past five matches in impressive fashion, with the outlier one thrashing at the hands of Carlton.

They bounced back from that loss to the Blues last weekend with a demolition of Essendon and their list is in good shape, though they are sweating on the return to gun youngster Aaron Naughton.

The Suns also head into this clash against the Dogs in winning form after soundly beating the Swans by 32 points last Saturday, after a couple of disappointing displays against Geelong and Melbourne. They too are close to full strength, though they of course are without first-year player Matt Rowell, whose shoulder injury will likely end his season.

The past two meetings between these teams have been tight, with the Suns winning the most recent last season by five points at Marvel Stadium, holding off a big finish from the Dogs.

Below we have highlighted our free Gold Coast v Western Bulldogs betting tips and winner prediction, for their round 8 AFL clash from Metricon Stadium on Thursday night.

Suns v Bulldogs betting tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Gold Coast v Western Bulldogs tips for Thursday’s game.

Western Bulldogs to win by 1-39 points

The Suns are a much-improved outfit this season and they are only going to get better in coming years. But at this stage the Dogs are a more mature outfit and even on the Suns’ home ground will be hard to stop. Their midfield had been a little rusty but is starting to gel.

Ben King 3 or more goals for the Suns

The young Suns forward and his twin brother Max of the Saints are outstanding prospects. We tipped Max to kick 3 or more goals in the match against Adelaide on Monday night and he fell just short. Ben King is the more experienced of the duo and further developed in football terms because of the knee injury that delayed Max’s debut until this year. Regardless, Ben King will prove a handful for the Dogs’ defence this time.

Gold Coast v Western Bulldogs prediction 23/7/20

This is the first time in their history the Suns have played a stand-alone match on either a Thursday or Friday. They are now ready for the big stage, but we think the Dogs are realistic top-four contenders and this is the sort of match they must win to achiever that goal. If you can overlook the dismal loss to Carlton a couple of weeks ago, Western Bulldogs are one of the form teams in the AFL. They have won four of their past five matches against the Suns and we expected them to make it five from six. Our final tip: Western Bulldogs by 18 points.
