Hawthorn are coming off a 36-point loss to the Western Bulldogs on Sunday and look ready to head into the off-season, after a disappointing run of form.

Hawthorn have made two changes for their final match of the year, including bring in skipper Ben Stratton for his farewell game, as we as including veteran defender James Frawley. Daniel Howe was rested while father/son prospect Finn Maginness was dropped after getting a taste of the top level last week.

The Suns will give a debut to speedy mature age recruit Jy Farrar, while they have also included Ben Ainsworth and youngster Jeremy Sharp. To make way for the trio, Darcy MacPherson was dropped and Nick Holman and Sean Lemmens ruled out through injury.

Hawthorn v Gold Coast tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Hawks v Suns tips for Sunday’s game.

Jack Gunston to kick 3+ goals

Hawks forward Jack Gunston is smart and while he doesn’t have the same power as Collingwood star Jordan De Goey, who put the Suns to the sword on Monday, he is the type of player who will trouble young backlines. He knows where to be and when to be there. Gunston is offering some nice value to kick 3+ with this paying $4.50.

Tom Mitchell to get over 30 touches

The Brownlow Medallist has been below his best in the last fortnight, but this might be by design. We suspect Mitchell will be given a licence to do what he does best in this game — win the ball. He is reasonably short in the betting at $2.50 to gather 30 touches, but we’re willing to chance it here against the young Suns midfield.

Hawthorn Hawks v Gold Coast Suns prediction 20/9/2020

Gold Coast probably deserve to win this game given they have been better than the Hawks for the majority of the year. But there is a big question mark on this game with Hawthorn farewelling premiership heroes Paul Puopolo and captain Ben Stratton. We expect a huge effort from the Hawks here and we’re probably not willing to put our own money anywhere near this dead rubber. Who knows what the mindset of the Suns will be like with Mad Monday just hours away, but we can bank on the Hawks trying to win for their soon-to-be-former players. Our final Gold Coast v Hawthorn prediction? Hawks by 11 points.
