Brisbane v Carlton betting tips, prediction and odds; AFL round 18 preview

Welcome to our Brisbane Lions v Carlton betting tips, prediction and odds update ahead of their AFL round 18 clash at the Gabba on Saturday night.

The Lions have sealed their top two position and a home final, but can win the minor premiership if they win this match and Port Adelaide drop their game against Collingwood on Monday night.

Make no mistake, this game is a potential banana skin for the Lions, with the Blues desperate to send legend Kade Simpson out a winner in his 342nd and final game for the club.

Carlton officially kissed their finals chances goodbye when they lost to Adelaide on Sunday, with their midfield getting beaten up by the resurgent Crows.

Brisbane were in a dogfight with Sydney for three quarters  in their latest outing, on Sunday, before lifting in the final quarter to win by 32 points.

The Lions have been installed $1.20 favourites for the clash with the Blues, who are $4.50 outsiders. The $1.90 line has been set at 25.5 points.

Brisbane have received a huge boost for this game and also for their premiership chances with veteran ruckman Stefan Martin to play his first game in two months after a back injury.

The Lions have also recalled livewire forward Lincoln McCarthy and defender Brandon Starcevich. They have dropped young ruckman Archie Smith and Mitch Hinge, with defender Noah Answerth rested.

Carlton have included speedy Jack Martin, ruckman Marc Pittonet, big midfielder Matt Kennedy and Cam Polson for their final-round clash.

Former Lion Sam Docherty, midfielder Will Setterfield and Zac Fisher were all ruled out through injury, while Lochie O’Brien was omitted.

Brisbane v Carlton tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Lions v Blues tips for Saturday’s game.

Harry McKay to kick 2+ goals

Young Blues forward Harry McKay kicked four goals in his latest outing against the Crows and will look to cash in on the absence of key Lions defender Harris Andrews. Whether McKay is influential will depend largely on his midfield, who need to win enough ball to feed it to him. McKay is paying $2.80 to kick 2+ goals which we think is good value.

Brisbane to win in margin betting

Brisbane to win by 1-39 points is paying $1.72 and looks to be where the smart money is heading in this contest. The Lions have not blown many teams away this season and Carlton will be keen on finishing their year on a positive. We just don’t think the Blues have the talent to win.

Cam Rayner to kick first goal

Exciting Brisbane youngster Cam Rayner is paying $14 to kick the first goal of the Carlton vs Brisbane clash. Rayner, like many young players, often creates a stir early before fading out of games. Many of the top AU betting sites run promotions surrounding first goal-scorer betting on the AFL.

Brisbane Lions vs Carlton Blues prediction 19/9/2020

It really is hard to know what state of mind of Carlton players are in now that their season is as good as over. But after so many years of failure, we can assume they are desperate to play well in their final game to honour loyal servant Simpson and attack the off season with passion and belief. We expect the Blues to be commiserating on their Mad Monday with nothing left in the tank after this one. They just won’t have enough talent to beat the Lions this time around. Our final Brisbane v Carlton prediction? Lions by 17 points.
