North Melbourne v Collingwood tips and prediction for May 8 2021

Welcome to our North Melbourne v Collingwood tips, prediction and odds analysis ahed of their AFL round 8 clash at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

This clash is shaping as a potential wooden-spoon battle with these teams in 17th and 18th places on the AFL ladder and seemingly out of finals calculations after just seven rounds.

North Melbourne are clearly rebuilding and pumping games into their young blood, although they have shown improvement since midfield bull Ben Cunnington returned from injury several weeks ago.

Collingwood’s demise has not been as straight-forward, with the likes of Taylor Adams, Jeremy Howe, Jamie Elliott and Jordan De Goey being injured early and exposing their fragile depth.

We don’t think the Magpies are as bad as the pundits are making out at this point, but they do need to switch Darcy Moore back to defence.

Collingwood are priced at $1.37 to defeat North Melbourne ($3.14), which is the most value there has been in weeks betting on a team to defeat the the Roos.

North Melbourne have suffered injury woes of their own in 2021, with Aidan Bonar (thigh) the latest to join the injury list. Trent Dumont did return from a calf injury successfully in the VFL, although he will spend at least one more week at the lower level after missing selection. Luke Davis-Uniacke has been recalled.

Collingwood considered bringing in the tough Levi Greenwood against his old team to add starch to their one-way midfield. But in the end youth won out, with Tyler Brown and Oliver Henry, after standout games in the Magpies’ VFL team, being called up.

North Melbourne v Collingwood betting tips

Our AFL betting expert has cast his eye over the odds and found some value North Melbourne v Collingwood tips:

Darcy Moore to get over 90 Super Coach points

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has vowed Darcy Moore will be moved back, after several unsuccessful weeks floundering in the Magpies’ dysfunctional forward line. Moore is clearly in the top couple of intercepters in the AFL and tends to wrack up big Super Coach scores. He is paying $1.88 to get over 90 points.

Ben Cunnington to have 30+ possessions

North Melbourne midfielder Ben Cunnington may not be the flashiest player, but he is the exact type that has put the Magpies to the sword in recent times. Last week Gold Coast trio Brandon Ellis, Jack Bowes and Touk Miller all gathered over 30 touches against the Pies and we think it might be Cunnington’s turn this week. He is paying around $2.10 to gather 30+ with Australian bookmakers.

Roos v Magpies same game multi tip

We think Collingwood will return to the winners’ list this week, but it will be close. We are planning on taking the Magpies to win by 1-21 points, with Jordan De Goey to kick 3 goals+ and Steele Sidebottom to gather over 25 touches. Consider chucking Cunnington in for 30+ touches to add some real value to your multi. This same game multi is paying around the $5 mark, or $10 with Cunnington.

North Melbourne v Collingwood prediction 8/5

We are taking Collingwood with minimal confidence in this game, after a dismal showing against Gold Coast last week. We have just vowed not to bet on the Roos in their current state. We also think a loss here could be the beginning of the end for coach Buckley. There is plenty to play for here for both teams, with the Roos seeking a first win and Collingwood, with the AFL world thoroughly enjoying their demise, desperate to show fans there is life after Ed. Our final North Melbourne v Collingwood prediction? Magpies by 11 points.
