NRL Finals Week 2: odds, schedule and times

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

The second week of the NRL finals kicks off on Friday night, October 9, with the first semi-final between the Sydney Roosters and Canberra at the SCG. Our NRL betting expert has examined the odds in our usual column highlighting what league action is on for the week ahead.

The second semi-final is on Saturday night between Parramatta and South Sydney at Bankwest Stadium.

Roosters v Raiders on Friday is particularly enticing given these teams met in the grand final last year, when the Roosters won in controversial fashion. This is a chance for Ricky Stuart’s Canberra side to settle the score a little, though nothing can make up for the pain of being so close to glory and falling short

The winners of the Sydney Roosters-Canberra semi-final will advance to a preliminary final on Friday, October 16, against the Melbourne Storm at Suncorp Stadium.

Bookmakers believe the Roosters will bounce back from their narrow defeat in the first final to defeat the Raiders, who beat Cronulla 32-20 in their final at GIO Stadium.

The second semi-final throws up struggling Parramatta against the red-hot Rabbitohs, who just can’t stop scoring, clocking up 106 in their past two matches against Sydney Roosters and Newcastle.

The winners of this match advance to played Penrith, who are on a 16-match winning streak, in a preliminary final at ANZ on Saturday, October 17. The

Souths go into the match as hot favourites, not surprising given they embarrassed the Eels 38-0 the last time the teams met, just five weeks ago

NRL Premiership odds before finals, week 2

Not surprisingly, the Panthers ($3.75 into $2.75) and the Storm ($3.75 into $3) sit atop premiership betting after their wins in the qualifying finals. Both teams sit just one more win away from reaching the grand final, and they can sit back and enjoy a week off while the other four teams slog it out to join them in the preliminary finals.

The Roosters were gallant in defeat but were $3.25 out to $5.50 with bookies and shape as the team most likely to trouble the Panthers and Storm, though the Rabbitohs continued to surge, in from $17 to $11 to lift the title.

Canberra remained firm with Unibet at $11, but the Eels were out from $19 to $29 and need to right the ship quickly or risk exiting the finals in straight sets.
