NRL Friday: Eels v Dragons betting tips, prediction & odds, round 14, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Welcome to our Parramatta v St George Illawarra betting tips, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at Bankwest Stadium on Friday, August 14.

This is the second NRL match on Friday night, with New Zealand Warriors v Penrith in the earlier slot at Central Coast Stadium at 6pm.

An added element of intrigue was added to this match on Thursday with the news coach Paul McGregor would stand down after this match.

McGregor has coach the club since 2014 and it would not be surprising to see the Dragons lift for his final match in charge to send him out a winner. We will stick with our original tips before the news broke, but it’s worth factoring in when you consider having a wager on this match.

McGregor’s assistant Dean Young is likely to take the reins for the final six rounds of the NRL season.

For St George Illawarra, this match is last roll of the dice time. The Dragons are languishing in 12 place with just four wins from 13 matches, a terrible return when you look at the quality on their roster. Their attack is top-eight standard but they too often let themselves down in defence.

Parramatta are sitting in third place with 11 wins from their 13 matches and won’t want to slip up and jeopardise the stranglehold they have on a top-four spot.

The Eels are in good shape physically and this week regain skilful second-rower Ryan Matterson after a concussion.

The Dragons have recalled quick-stepping five-eighth Corey Norman, with Ben Hunt back to hooker. They have lost Jackson Ford to suspension and Tariq Sims to a shoulder injury. Veteran Trent Merrin is out, but Korbin Sims and Jacob Host come into the 17.

This doubles option is paying $3.30 with leading betting site Unibet. Both these teams have scored freely and though the weather forecast is not great, we expect the tries to come regularly. Check the weather on the day though in case it is worse than expected. If it is, we will just be backing the Eels to cover the line.

Zac Lomas to score a try

The young centre has been a shining light in a poor season for the Dragons. We successfully tipped him to cross for a four-pointer last week, and if anyone is going to score for the Dragons he is the man most likely. He is a great attacking weapon. This option is for Lomax to score at any time in the match,

Parramatta Eels v St George Illawarra Dragons prediction

Parramattta have won nine of their past 10 matches against the Dragons, with the single loss coming in round 16, 2018, when the Dragons won 20-18. With prop Paul Vaughan still sidelined for breaching COVID-19 protocols, the Dragons pack just looks a little light on compared with the powerhouse pack of the Eels, who pop out more offloads than any other team in the comp. The Eels simply look to big, strong and fast right across the park. Our Eels v Dragons prediction: Parramatta by 16 points.
