NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Welcome to our Cronulla Sharks v Gold Coast Titans betting tips, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Saturday, August 15.

This is the opening match of NRL’s usual Super Saturday fare of three matches and we think it holds the most interest on the day.

The following matches pit the North Queensland Cowboys against South Sydney from 5.30pm and the Canberra Raiders against the hapless Brisbane Broncos from 7.35pm.

Cronulla headed into the round in eight place on the table and only two points clear of ninth-placed Manly Warringah, and four behind the fourth-placed Roosters. So you can be sure there will be no complacency from John Morris’s men, who face a tough draw leading up to the finals.

The Titans are in 13th with only four wins for the season so far and it would take a minor miracle for them to make the finals but they have shown much improved form of late.

In their past five games they have beaten the NZ Warriors 16-12 and the Cowboys 30-10 last weekend. They were also competitive against big guns Penrith and Sydney Roosters, losing 14-22 and 12-18 to those teams respectively.

The Titans are unchanged from the team which last week thumped the Cowboys, while the Sharks have also only tinkered around the edges. Sharks forward Scott Sorensen (head knock) must pass HIA protocol, while Jack Williams replaces Teig Wilton on the bench.

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Cronulla-Sutherland v Gold Coast Titans betting tips.

Sharks -10.5 points/match total over 43.5 points

This double is paying around $3.25 with leading bookie Unibet. We believe this match will be fast and loose, but it’s worth checking the weather closer to game time and if it’s wet and wild, switch to the unders in the match total. We know the Sharks are wonderful in attack, but they can be loose in defence and the Titans’ attack is improving all the time. It should be a pleasing spectacle for neutral fans.

Toby Rudolf to score and try at $6

The Sharks back-rower is a wholehearted performer but has yet to score a try in his 13 career appearances. He has, however, impressed with his charges and we think he is due to crash over from close range. He has some footwork for a big man and the Titans are not the grittiest team in defence.

Cronulla Sharks v Gold Coast Titans prediction

The Sharks have won their past four matches against the Titans. We are impressed with how the Titans have bounced back lately and stuck to their guns against some of the best teams in the comp. They can rightfully lay claim to being the best team in Queensland at the moment, and that’s something we did not think we would be saying this season. But there is too much at stake for the Sharks and they have come a favourite of ours to watch with some of their dazzling ball movement. Our Sharks v Titans prediction: Sharks by 14 points.
