NRL Friday: South Sydney v Wests Tigers, predictions & odds, round 9, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

The South Sydney v Wests Tigers clash on Friday night is a battle between two teams staking a claim to finish fifth to eighth on the NRL ladder and maybe cause a surprise or two come finals time.

We have a lot of time for the South Sydney line-up, which boasts plenty of attacking firepower and is coached by a master in Wayne Bennett. However, too often this season they have shot themselves in the foot with simple handling errors and lax defence.

The Rabbitohs are close to full strength now and have had enough time to find some rhythm so there should be no more excuses and they should be starting to challenge the better teams.

Souths have lost centre Braidon Burns with a knee injury but James Roberts slots straight in and Bayley Sironen returns to the bench.

Wests Tigers are coached by Michael Maguire, who coached the Rabbits to their drought-breaking title in 2014, and they were brave against the red-hot Panthers in losing 19-12 last round.

But they are a little battered after that clash, losing Joey Leilua to suspension after an ill-disciplined hit, with Michael Chee-Kam moving to centre and veteran Chris Lawrence joining the bench. But they also have question marks over Moses Mbye (knee), Luciano Leilua (head knock) and Sam McIntyre (head knock).

Rabbitohs v Wests Tigers free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free tips for the Rabbitohs v Wests Tigers clash.

Souths -5.5 points/match total over 36.5 points double

This option is paying $2.75 with leading bookmaker Unibet. Both teams are averaging close to 20 points a game and even with some dicey weather the points should flow as both teams love to attack expansively.

Damien Cook to score a try

The NSW hooker comes up against Wests Tigers sensation Harry Grant, who has been mentioned as a possible Queensland rake. Their battle around the ruck should be fascinating, but we are backing the more experienced Cook to get loose at some stage and scurry over.

South Sydney Rabbitohs v Wests Tigers prediction

We are looking forward to this Friday night NRL battle between two of the teams who have been renowned entertainers over the past decade. Wests Tigers as a club has a tremendous knack of unearthing young talent, even if it can’t always hang on to them…. James Tedesco, Mitchell Moses just to name a couple. They are always exciting to watch, but we think Souths will be too strong overall here. The Bunnies by 10 points.
