The Panthers-Eels match-up is intriguing as three weeks ago it would have been seen as a potential one-sided romp, but the Sea Eagles have revived their season with three straight wins thanks in no small part to the return from long-term hamstring injury of dynamic fullback Tom Trbojevic.

The Sea Eagles scraped past NZ Warriors 13-12 but in the past two weeks have hit top form, crushing the Titans 36-0 and the Wests Tigers 40-6.

But now they face their acid test against the only unbeaten side left this season, the Panthers, who thrashed the Sea Eagles 46-6 a week before Manly’s win over the Warriors.

It will be fascinating to see if they can turn their dominance around now that they are in form again and playing with confidence.

The bad news for Des Hasler’s team is they have won only three of their past 15 matches against the Panthers and were also thrashed by 30 points in their only match-up last season.

Panthers v Sea Eagles team news for round 8

The Panthers welcome back star hooker Api Koroisau (wrist), though his stand-in for the past six weeks Mitch Kenny has been outstanding and can count himself unlucky. Such is the depth that holds the Panthers in such good stead at this point of the season.

Last week Penrith regained ace fullback Dylan Edwards and he is OK to go again this week.

The Sea Eagles have stuck with the 17 that put the cleaners through Wests Tigers. One interesting selection was that of centre-back-rower Ben Trbejovic in the reserves. He is the younger brother of stars Tom and Jake and is a towering teenager on the verge of making his NRL debut.

Panthers v Sea Eagles free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted free Penrith-Manly tips for Saturday’s game.

Penrith to win/match total over 40.5 points

The way the Sea Eagles have turned around their season has been impressive but the Panthers are a red-hot side and they are now back to full strength. They hate conceding a try and will really look to put the clamps on. Manly need to step up to another level to have any chance.

Stephen Crichton to score 2+ tries

We were keen on Crichton last week to score now that he is back to his favoured position at centre but he did not deliver. We will give him another chance this week at a lucrative price to score 2 or more tries. He was a try-scoring sensation for the Panthers last season.

Panthers v Sea Eagles prediction 1-5-2021

This should be an exciting contest as the weather forecast is clear for Bathurst on Saturday, but we expect the Panthers and their relentless defence to be a little too good. They showed last season that they simply expect to keep on winning. They have now won 24 of their past 25 matches and it’s impossible to tip against them against a manly side that are more likely to be competing for a place from 6th-10th this season. It will not doubt be enjoyable though with so many big stars of the NRL on display on both sides . Our Panthers v Sea Eagles prediction: Penrith by 14 points.
