NRL Saturday: Wests Tigers v Panthers, predictions & odds, round 8, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Seventh-placed Wests Tigers host the second-placed Penrith Panthers in the best match on Saturday in the NRL.

The Tigers have flown under the radar a little with four wins and three losses from their seven games but a win here would really thrust them into finals discussions.

It won’t be easy against the in-form Panthers, who are at full strength and have dispatched the Melbourne Storm 21-14 and Souths 20-12 in the their past couple of matches.

Meanwhile, the Tigers thrashed the Cowboys 36-20 and the Bulldogs 34-6 but this looms as a more serious test of their credentials.

In the earlier matches on NRL Super Saturday, the 13th-placed Titans host the 11th-placed Sharks at Cbus Super Stadium from 3pm, and the New Zealand Warriors and Brisbane Broncos clash at Central Coast Stadium at 5.30pm.

Wests Tigers and Penrith met twice in 2019 for a 9-8 win to the Panthers and a 30-4 romp to the Tigers the second time around when the Tigers scored five tries in the opening 20 minutes.

The Panthers’ defence has come a long way since then, but it’s also a reminder of how free-scoring the Tigers can be.

Wests Tigers head into this match with an unchanged side, while the Panthers regain powerful winger John Mansour after a knee injury.

David Nofoaluma to score a try

Wests Tigers winger Nofoaluma has been in dazzling form, leading the NRL in tackle busts and he has also scored eight tries already, the equal second-most in the competition behind Cowboys winger Kyle Feldt (9). Wests Tigers v Penrith Panthers  prediction

The Panthers have won five of the past six clashes between these teams but were embarrassed the last time they met. They are a serious football team, but we love the way the Tigers have been playing at times and this should be a highly entertaining contest. They are are very hard to contain, so we can see the Panthers being forced to thrown caution to the wind a little to match that flare. Wests Tigers by six points in an upset. Good punting.
