NRL Sunday: Eels v Dragons betting tips, prediction & odds, round 5, 2021

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Read on for our Parramatta Eels v St George Illawarra Dragons match preview, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at Bankwest Stadium on Sunday, April 11.

Both these teams have run into some seriously good form, with the Eels one of only two unbeaten sides in the league and the Dragons having won their past three matches after an opening-round loss to the Sharks.

It should be remembered though that the Dragons have beaten three out-of-sorts sides in North Queensland, Manly and Newcastle, and this is their first real test against top-notch opposition for the season.

Parramatta have won nine of their past 11 matches against the Dragons, but lost their only meeting in 2020 when the Dragons won 14-12 at this ground in round 14.

The Eels have stacked up well this season and among their victims they can include defending premiers the Melbourne Storm.

The other match on the Sunday will be a sombre affair as the Wests Tigers face North Queensland Cowboys at Leichhardt Oval. They will wear Wests colours to honour club legend Tom Raudonikis who passed away during the week and will also retire the No.7 jersey from all four grades for the day.

Eels v Dragons team news for round 5

Parramatta regain second-rower Ryan Matterson (concussion) after he was hit in a high tackle in round two against the Storm. He comes into the starting team for the impressive Isaiah Papali’i, who moves back to the bench.

Former Penrith and Gold Coast Titans forward Bryce Cartwright is poised to make his debut for the Eels after recovering from a broken jaw.

The Dragons welcome back centre Jack Bird from suspension. His replacement for his one-match ban Brayden Wiliame drops to the bench. Bird is aiming to put a miserable, injury-hit few years at the Broncos behind him.

Eels v Dragons free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Eels-Dragons betting tips for Sunday’s game.

Dragons +10.5 points/match total over 40.5

The doubles offering at TopSport has attracted our attention. The line is heft as we don’t think there is that much between the teams. The Dragons have shown they can really attack and are riding high with three wins on the bounce. We see a close contest here so are happy to be on the team with the big start.

Maiko Sivo to score 2 tries at $5.20

The Parramatta winger is just a powerhouse of a player. He’s quick, strong and fearless and one of our favourite players to watch! He looms as the man most likely and to score exactly two tries, he is paying $5.20 with leading bookies TopSport.

Parramatta Eels v St George Illawarra Dragons prediction 11-4-2021

Parramatta have surged in premiership betting, but they really had their hands full holding off the Wests Tigers on Easter Monday. We think the Dragons are a slightly better team than the Tigers so this one could go right down to the wire. St George really need to nullify the dominant Eels pack, who offload for fun and create so many second-phase opportunities. We think they can do that but the Eels just look slightly too strong overall. Our Eels v Dragons prediction: Eels by two points.
