The Roosters have won their past five matches against the Sharks, and proved far too good in their only meeting in 2020, winning 34-18 at the SCG in round 19 last season.

Trent Robinson’s side proved last weekend there is life without halfback Luke Keary, who is out for the season with a knee injury suffered a fortnight ago.

Young gun Sam Walker shone on debut last week as the Roosters tore apart the New Zealand Warriors, and the Bondi team are sitting pretty at 3-1 after four matches. The Roosters are the highest-scoring team in the league this season and they come up against another free-scoring team in the Sharks.

Roosters v Sharks team news for round 5

The Roosters have stuck with the same 17 who won 32-12 over the Warriors, though second-rower Sitili Tupouniua suffered a head knock in that clash and must pass the HIA protocols in the lead-up to the game.

Cronulla get a boost with the return of pacy centre Jesse Ramien after a suspension for a high shot. Sharks winger Ronaldo Mulitalio (knee) and Josh Dugan (head knock) have been named to play but it’s worth checking the teams just before kick-off. Ramien replaces Connor Tracey, who moves back to the bench.

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Sydney Roosters-Cronulla betting tips for Saturday’s game.

Cronulla +8.5 points/match total over 40.5 points

The Sharks look a lot more dangerous with Ramien back at centre. They tore the Cowboys apart last week and loom as a time with ambitions of match some of the big boys. This is a great test for them and we think they will go close.

Jesse Ramien v Joseph Manu try match-up

TopSport is offering a match-up between these two fine centres, with three possible outcomes in the market: Manu most tries at $3.65; same number of tries at $1.59; Ramien most tries at $4.50. We will back Ramien to come out on top, as Manu is not a prolific try-scorer, though the players around him are scoring at will, with Brett Morris and fullback James Tedesco having 16 between them in four matches!

Sydney Roosters v Cronulla Sharks prediction 10-4-2021

This should be an entertaining contest. While the young Roosters halves did well against the Warriors, the Sharks are a tougher task altogether. It will be fascinating to see whether Walker and halves partner Drew Hutchison can continue to deliver. We think the Roosters wonderful depth and experience will carry them a long way, but we are still in the camp that says they can’t win the comp this year, with some of their key players sidelined and in the case of Friend now retired. They should scrape over the line in this one. Our Roosters v Sharks prediction: Sydney Roosters by two points.
