NRL Sunday: Panthers v Cowboys, predictions & odds, round 10, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Penrith host North Queensland in the final match of round 10 and the first match at Panthers Stadium since Round 1.

The Panthers are overwhelming favourites heading into this Sunday afternoon match, and it’s not hard to see why given their hot form and the Cowboys’ poor recent defence.

The Cowboys are flying the flag for Queensland on a weekend in which the Gold Coast Titans were thumped 42-6 by the Storm and the Brisbane Broncos hit a new low with a 48-0 loss to the Wests Tigers.

The last time these teams met, the Cowboys won 24-10 in Townsville in 2019 with Kyle Feldt scoring a double. They also beat them 26-20 in 2018, but this is a very different Panthers side.

The Cowboys have dropped away with consecutive thrashings from the big guns Parramatta and Sydney Roosters, in which their defence was appalling.

Given Penrith’s attack is red hot after putting on 56 points against Cronulla, the Cowboys really need to aim up in defence.

The Panthers also regain tough centre Dean Whare, with Brent Naden out to wing in place of the unlucky Charlie Staines, who scored four tries in his debut last week.

NQ get Justin O’Neill back on the wing, with Mitch Dunn in for Scott Drinkwater (knee) at five-eighth.

Panthers v Cowboys free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free tips for the Panthers v Cowboys clash.

Penrith to win/match total over 43.5 points

This option is available at Unibet Australia and is a little conservative, though if you want to increase the odds from around $2.12 to $3.15 you could take Penrith -16.5 points into the match total over 43.5 points. We think Penrith will win comfortably in a high-scoring contest.

Dylan Edwards to score a try

The Panthers fullback has really brought back the penetration to his team’s attack. Edwards has slowly worked his way to somewhere near top form after injury and he will menace the leaky Cowboys defence. Every chance he will find a way across the line at least once.

Panthers v Cowboys prediction

North Queensland have a good recent record against the Panthers, winning five of the past seven meetings, but their defence is statistically the worst in the league. And that’s saying something the way the Titans and Broncos have leaked tries! Add in that the Panthers are looming as serious NRL title threats and it’s hard to see anything other than a big win for the Panthers. Our final prediction? Penrith by 24 points.
