NRL Sunday: Titans v Panthers, predictions & odds, round 11, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Gold Coast Titans host ladder leaders Penrith Panthers on Sunday, July 26, in what many pundits see as a mismatch.

The clash closes out round 11 of the NRL, with other match on Sunday the Newcastle Knights v Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at McDonald Jones Stadium from 2pm.

The Titans are sitting in second-last place on the ladder and last round were pummeled by the Melbourne Storm 42-6. Their defence has been poor all season, but at least in that match they muscled up early and more than matched the Storm for the first quarter of the match.

The good news for Titans coach Justin Holbrook is they regain several important players this week, including captain Kevin Proctor  after a biceps injury that sidelined him for a month.

They also regain veteran centre Dale Copley, with Phillip Sami moving out the wing.

Penrith struggled a little to overcome a spirited North Queensland last Sunday, and have lost a trio of players for this clash.

Fullback Dylan Edwards (hamstring), centre Dean Whare (thigh) and hooker Api Koroisau (elbow)  are all out. That is a fair chunk of attacking ability sitting on the sidelines.

Mitch Kenny comes in at hooker, Caleb Aekins stands in at fullback and Brent Naden  takes Whare’s spot at centre, with Malakai Watene-Zelezniak coming on to the wing.

Gold Coast and Penrith met twice during the 2019 NRL season, with one win apiece.

In their first meeting at the Gold Coast, the Titans won 30-24. The Panthers won the second meeting 24-2 at Panthers Stadium, with Dylan Edwards grabbing a double.

Titans v Panthers free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free tips for the Titans v Panthers clash.

Gold Coast Titans +15.5 points/match total under 42.5 points

The doubles option is available at Unibet Australia and the weather has played a big hand in our selection. Four days of rain should make it slippery and tough to score. The Titans need to muscle up, of course, but the return of Proctor will help in that regard.

Anthony Don anytime try-scorer

The towering winger does not miss out too often, even when the Titans are going poorly. He is a great finisher and a threat under the high ball and has scored six tries already this season in one of poorest attacking teams.

Titans v Panthers prediction

The Panthers have reached the top of the NRL table but last week’s tough grind against the Cowboys should serve as a reminder that in this competition you only have to be slightly off your game and it will be tough going. It took a masterclass from halfback Nathan Cleary to get the Panthers over the line. We expect them to consolidate top spot with a win but think it will be another tough battle in the wet. Our final prediction: Panthers by six points.
